Crime Woman Escapes Violent Ex-Husband by Hiding Under Table with Bin Bag Over Head
Picture courtesy of Amarin. A 26-year-old woman from Rayong province narrowly survived a brutal assault by her ex-husband, who attacked her in front of their four-year-old son, in a shocking incident caught on CCTV. The attack took place at 20:50 on 14 July in Ban Khai district, Rayong. CCTV footage shows the suspect, named only as Nhu, 28, entering his ex-wife’s home before her terrified screams rang out. Moments later, Nhu was seen emerging from the house to retrieve a metal bar, then re-entering as a second round of screams followed. In a desperate attempt to survive, the victim, Ms Chanikan, fled the house and hid at a neighbour’s home. She used a black plastic bin bag to cover her head and concealed herself under a table, breathing through a small hole she made in the bag to monitor her attacker’s movements. Additional footage shows Nhu wandering outside in a rage, striking a helmet with the metal bar and trying to climb over a neighbouring wall in search of her. Failing to find her, he eventually fled the scene. When reporters visited the house, Ms Chanikan demonstrated how she had hidden, explaining how she had remained motionless and silent under the table, hoping her ex-husband wouldn’t find her. Inside the home, blood stains were still visible on the floor, door, and pillows, grim evidence of the violent beating she endured. The woman suffered multiple head and arm injuries and extensive bruising after being struck repeatedly with a helmet and a metal rod. Outside the house, a broken glass door was found, smashed by Nhu in his rage. The weapon used in the attack, a steel rod, was still at the scene. Ms Chanikan revealed she and Nhu had been divorced for over a year but shared custody of their son. She said Nhu had been struggling with severe debt due to online gambling, and despite her attempts to mediate with his mother for financial help, he had squandered the money on gambling again. When he realised he could not pay his debts, he became violent. “He beat me over and over in front of our son. I only escaped because he let his guard down, and I ran out the back, hid under the table and used the black plastic bag to conceal myself,” she told reporters. She has since called on Ban Khai Police Station to take legal action and expressed fears for her safety, stating that Nhu has already been released. Rights groups are urging authorities to ensure the victim receives protection and justice, while many are demanding harsher penalties for such violent behaviour.
