Samut Prakarn takes actions against human trafficking in fishery industry

SAMUT PRAKARN, 11 February 2015 (NNT) - Samut Prakarn province has adopted tougher measures against human trafficking in the fishery industry ahead of the ASEAN Economic Community.


Officials from the provincial Departments of Labor and Fisheries have reiterated to fishing boat operators to have their migrant workers undergo labor registration.

The move is aimed at eliminating human trafficking from the industry and improving the country’s image. Migrant workers will be entitled to employment benefits, once they have registered with the Ministry of Labor.

Employers are encouraged to bring migrant workers along with their dependents to declare their country of origin at the Ministry of Labor’s Proof of Nationality Workers Service in Prapadaeng district by the end of March.

Interior Minister asserts respect for rights of individuals summoned for 'attitudinal discussions'

BANGKOK, Feb 10 -- Thialand's government and its National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has not infringed on the rights of any individual summoned for attitudinal discussions, said Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda.

Extra holiday for Thai banks

BANGKOK: -- The Bank of Thailand today declared May 4 an extra holiday for financial institutions, to help promote tourism during the Coronation Day holiday period.


In a statement, it said as this is announced well ahead of the holiday, this should not significantly affect financial and economic activities.

Meanwhile, financial institutions can still keep some branches open on the day.

100-car pileup on South Korean bridge leaves 2 dead, 65 hurt

SCB gives Bt2 million more to family of killed fire fighter

BANGKOK: -- Dr. Vichit Suraphongchai, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Siam Commercial Bank, has provided an additional financial help to the family of voluntary firefighter Decha Daugchana, who was killed fighting the blaze at the SCB head office.


So far, the SCB has provided Bt2.2 million cash to the family, plus a life insurance policy to Decha's mother.

Supreme Court accepts suppression case against former premier Somchai

BANGKOK: -- The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has accepted a lawsuit filed against former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat and his former deputy Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh for the crackdown of anti government protesters in 2008.

Temperature will drop again in Thailand's upper part

BANGKOK, 11 February 2015 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has forecast cooler weather conditions and more raining from February 12th – 15th in the North, Northeast, and Central regions.


The weakening high pressure system from China has slightly increased the temperature in the upper parts of Thailand earlier this morning.

However, people were told to brace for winds and thunder showers from Thursday until Sunday, as westerly winds from Myanmar move towards the same region. Temperatures are forecast to drop slightly.

The department has also issued a wave warning for fishermen from Nakhon Si Thammarat province southward, due to the northeastern monsoon.

ISOC Region 4 Forward Command holds special talk on informing youth of danger's of drugs in Yala province

YALA, 11 February 2015 (NNT) - The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 Forward Command has held a special talk in Yala province to inform youths about the dangers of illegal drugs, while encouraging them to be grateful for their parents.


ISOC invited former Fort Wachirawut Hospital Director Colonel Pongsak Tangkana MD to speak at the Rajabhat Yala University. Col. Dr. Pongsak gave a lecture on drug facts, as well as the idea of practicing gratitude towards one’s parents. The event was attended by civil servants, students, and other participants.

The special talk was held in accordance with Fourth Army Area Commander Lieutenant General Prakarn Chonlayut's orders to raise drug awareness among students.

The event was targeted at students grades 8-11 of both Islamic-teaching schools and 18 other schools in the province, which total 3,000 students.

Royal cremation for late Supreme Patriarch possibly held in 2016

BANGKOK, 11 February 2015 (NNT) - The Sangha Supreme Council expected that the Royal Cremation Ceremony for Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch, should be held in 2016, said Phra Phrom Methi, a member and spokesman of the Sangha Supreme Council.

Speaking after the council's meeting to follow up the preparation of the cremation for His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch, Phra Phrom Methi said the ceremony should take place some time next year as Somdej Phra Wannarat, Chief Superintendent of the Dhammayuttika Ecclesiastry estimated the renovation of Debsirin Monastery where the royal cremation will take place should take at least eight more months to complete.

Somdej Phra Wannarat, also acting abbot of Borvoranives Monastery, told the meeting that the Crown Property Bureau and the Fine Arts Department were expediting the renovation of the cremation site and related buildings as well as improvement of the landscape at Debsirin Monastery.

Meanwhile, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office M.L. Panadda Diskul is scheduled to visit the Office of Traditional Arts of the Fine Arts Department in Nakhon Pathom Province tomorrow to inspect the maintenance of the royal chariots to be used in the cremation.
