first trip to thailand

Featured Replies

Can anyone help,

1. Myself and my wife are spending a month in Thailand (phi-phi and lanta) can we get a passport on arrival and if so should we arrive with visa size photos ? We may be 1 day over our alloted time so will we need to pay a fine on exit.

2. Do the ferries from Lanta stop at the end of April, if so we will have to travel by road back to krabi, any idea on the price of a taxi or is there a bus/mini bus service.

Thanks in advance.

I am moving this topic from the Krabi Forum to the Visa forum.

No, you cannot get a passport on arrival. In fact, you cannot even check in for your flight to Thailand without a passport.

Don't know why I put passport ?? I meant visa !

It would help to know what country you are from.

If you qualify for a "visa exempt" entry, you will get 30 days permission to stay on entry which can be extended for 30 days at immigration for 1900 baht.

Overstaying 1 day is an option, many do it without problems, but not recommended. The overstay fine is 500 baht/day but is only 1 day it is usually not charged if you leave by air.

Can't help on the ferry.

Thanks Wayned,we are coming in from UK, so just 1 photo then.

It is not the country of departure that matters, but your nationality, ie the country that issued your passport.

Paul, Maestro moved your topic to the visa forum so you could get correct answers about visas. However not many people here will know about your question regarding the island, ferries, etc.

You might want to go back to the Krabi forum and ask there again, but only specifics about that area and not visa questions, i.e. only your second question. Rather than title your thread "First trip to thailand", you might want to put the name of the Island in it to attract people who might know something.

Have a good trip.

You don't need any photos. You arrive at BKK with your passport and they stamp it with ~ 30 day visa exempt stamp. Note they count the day your are standing there as day 1 so make sure you account for that in your 30 day trip. If you are thinking of staying longer or of making a visa run across the border and back, you can save yourself some time and trouble if you bring some extra passport sized photos.

As others have said, you should post in the Krabi section about the ferry schedules and such. Many people there will know the details.

You will need one photo if you apply for the 30 day extension, 4cm x 6cm.. It required for the TM7 extension form.
