Redmouse
I'm sorry I don't have a picture but wonder if anyone knows what the fruit / nut is that seems to be in season all of a sudden. It's a pod that is green / pink and is twisted in a spiral. You can see the lumps of the fruit / nut inside. When opened, the fruit / nut is white or pinkish curled around a black seed which you take out. A very nice lady selling these by the bag by the side of the road let me try one and it didn't taste of much, rather like a soft nut that left the mouth dryish. I did ask her what they were but she laughed at me ... I get that a lot when I try to speak Thai If no-one can help then I'll try to get a picture. Seligne2
Does it look like this? http://www.fruitsinfo.com/tamarind.php
riceyummm
I've heard it called "white tamarind", (macaam khao), I thought it was just young tamarind but I'm not sure. Tastes to me like an unripe mulberry. Edited February 13, 2015 by riceyummm
Redmouse
Does it look like this? http://www.fruitsinfo.com/tamarind.php Not really ... imagine the pods 3 or 4 times longer, pale green and spiralling around itself. The 'fruit' inside are individual, laid out in little pockets a bit like you would find a broad bean (fava bean) and about the same size.
