in a long period democracy always leads to socialism, because any society consists of 80% losers and 20% winners (Pareto principle) so majority will vote for robbing the minority and sharing, as soon as any populist will promise this.

so martial law is bad for democracy but good for economy.

what is more important for you? your own prosperity or absence of individuals richer than you? freedom or equality? 80% choose the second option because they are slaves of there ego

Thailand chose freedom, but "masters in pith helmets" from the West still believe they know it better how other nations should live. and keep trying to indoctrinate Thais with there sick left-liberal dogma...

HUH?! Democracy leads to socialism you lost me with your first statement which is seriously laughable. Give me some factual examples of that please. Actually its just the opposite if anything as people long to be free and NOT controlled

True mate , I suppose its a case of fighting Rhetoric with Rhetoric. Everyone wants their "Side" if side is the right word to be the wronged party. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the Government I think in any circumstances a coup is wrong,

I suppose like many others the political situation is not affecting every day life as such, The amount of nonsense pouring out of the media about the current Regime is to say the least somewhat annoying, along with people who cheer the Military takeover along, Its a red rag to this Socialist Bull ;0)

I agree that no coup is right however the situation we had before the present one was far from right either.

There seemed to be no way out as the violence and attacks on the protesters were escalating with the police and in particular Tarit and Chalerm doing nothing to curb them, the country was going backwards so something had to be done by somebody.

I don't think its unreasonable to say that the general had the courage to be the one to step up and do it regardless of the flack he was bound to take.

He could just as easily have said stuff the lot of you go fight, my retirement is close I want to enjoy it.

But anyway the situation is what we have and to fight against something you cant change is just foolishness, particularly when its something that with cooperation will resolve itself all the quicker.

I also agree about the red rag bit, most of the time I just shake my head in wonder at the outright lunacy and hate of some posts, only now and again do I comment.

Cheers, have a great day.

Rob, the violence wasn't escalating it was ebbing and flowing there was no trend of increasing levels of violence sir.

You also seem to have forfotten that the army was deployed on the streets manning ECPs all over the city and it never made any difference the attacks still happened.

For sure the cops were complicit, complacent and inept in stopping these attacks, do you not remember the army personnel caught with assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammo caught by the cops too? That wasn't for a hunting trip using government issued weapons. So where do you think these weapons were destined?

Now you are a long termer here, and have a question for you, what does a copper do when he's armed with a pistol with 10-17 rounds of ammo with a range if 25-50 M against several guys armed with assault rifles that have ranges in excess of 300M?

Have you never heard of the expression never bring a knife to a gunfight?

The cops are not the calibre of people needed to enforce the law but it it what it is and until they have a revamped professional highly trained force that know the law themselves then nothing is going to change mate
