Office probes officials accused of issuing fake ID cards
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Eleven people accused of unlawfully issuing special ID cards to more than 400 stateless people in Kanchanaburi province are being investigated by a fact-finding team set up by the Department of Provincial Administration's General Registration Office.

The team, led by registrar expert official Wiroj Srisawat, yesterday spent two hours interrogating each of the accused, who are part of a network that reportedly includes six clerks, one former kamnan and two village headmen.

One of the accused was named as Prasan Niyomsap, a former kamnan of tambon Koh Samrong and a member of Kanchanaburi Administrative Organisation.

The case stems from a petition filed by Muang district chief Sattha Khachapalayuk, who provided as evidence a 5,000-page dossier he had compiled as part of an investigation into suspected irregularities in 2006 when he first came into office.

Prasan, who was the first person summoned, denied the accusation made against him and said he provided the team with the facts.

This type of crime has been going on for Eons, nothing like helping a fellow traveller in need , besides the money changing hands, it also shows these officials are human after all , bad habits are hard to break, this type of offence is so ingrained with the issue of any permit , licence or piece of paper and lets face it , the official looks real important as he stamps all those papers , it makes their day. coffee1.gif
