A new department is planned to be set up under the Labour Ministry

The Labour Ministry is planning to set up a new department to deal specifically with Thailand’s labour forces development.

Labour Minister Somsak Thepsuthin (สมศักดิ์ เทพสุทิน) said the new agency, to be called the Labour Economic Office, will be responsible for labour information management and implementation of strategies that support labour development, including the increase of minimum wages and employment rate and improvement of labour skills.

Mr. Somsak said this agency will share its labour information database with all other departments of the Labour Ministry and also with the Education, Commerce and Industry ministries as well as the Prime Minister's Office.

The Labour Minister said the plan has already been approved by the Cabinet, adding that a bill to accommodate the establishment of the new department will soon be drafted.
