which visa to move onto now

Featured Replies

I am currently on an ED visa which was issued october 2014. My next extension will be april. I am 47.

My gf us now expecting a child in july so we wish to move back to her province.

My problem now is of myself not attending the school which will in turn eventually bring on a problem with immigration.

So my questions are, how long will it be till immigration clamp down on me and which visa to move onto and when.

I am aware of the TE visa and its advantages but this remains a last resort because of the cost.

Thank you for any responses.

If your girlfriend is Thai you should legitimize the child right after the birth by going to court. That will take some time, but in the mean time you can get a non-O visa based upon the child with the child's birth certificate naming you as the father.

See: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/381917-how-to-gain-parental-rights-as-a-father/

Once you have legitimized the child you can get extensions of stay based upon the child if you can show an income of 40,000 a month (can be from abroad) or 400,000 baht in bank account in Thailand.

Thanks Mario and yes I will try and obtain that visa after the birth.

But in the shorterm with my present situation and the run up to the birth what would your advice be.

Martin

In the mean time apply for a (double entry) tourist visa in Laos, that gives you two entries of 60 days and each entry can be extended by 30 days. So it would give you almost 180 days in Thailand.

A tourist visa is 1,000 per entry and an extension costs 1,900 baht.
