Kid outside of marriage

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the proper section to ask this but I need some help or at least get a proper insight about my situation. I'm a Canadian on a work permit and I'm having a kid with a Thai woman. We are not married and don't plan on to. Does this make my parental rights limited? Does it make getting the kid Canadian citizenship difficult? This woman and I have our differences however we want to do what's best for the future of this kid. Is there anything you suggest I do once the kid is born? The birth is expected in about a month so advice it's much appreciated or pointing me in the right direction. Thank you all very much.

If you want to use your parenthood of a Thai for visa or immigration purposes you would need to legitimize it. How To Gain Parental Rights As A Father

Info on getting citizenship for your child is here on embassy website. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/thailand-thailande/consular_services_consulaires/citizenship-citoyennete.aspx?lang=eng

if OP gets his name on the birth certificate and then pays a lawyer 20k to get the court document proving legitimization this means that he can then potentially get a visa.... question.... is this only on the basis that he is living with the child? Can he still get the visa if he is not cohabitating with the lovely gf and baby?

To get a visa at an embassy or consulate there would be no requirement to be living with his child. To apply for an extension of stay at immigration he would need the to show proof that his child is living with him,
