Police wait at Chalong pier for rescue workers to return with the body.

PHUKET: -- The body of an British man was found floating off of Koh Hae (Coral Island) yesterday afternoon (February 23). It is believed that the man had had a lot to drink the night before and had wondered into the sea.

At 1:30pm yesterday, Chalong investigator, Lt Wuttiwat Leangboonjinda and his team were called to investigate the death of the man after a tour boat called and reported they had found a body floating at Koh Hae.

Rescue workers took a speedboat to the island to retrieve the body and transported it back to Vachira Hospital.

The victim, later identified as Sebastian Palin, 32, was 170 centremetres tall and was dressed in a white vest and colourful Bermuda shorts. He also had two wrist band on his left wrist.

Police said that he has been dead for at least 12 hours. There was no suspision of foul play and it was assumed that Mr Palin had drowned.

Police later learned that Mr Palin had checked in at the Coral Island Resort on Saturday (February 21) and was scheduled to check out yesterday morning.

On Sunday night (February 22), it is alledged that Mr Palin had got very drunk at the hotel bar. Staff had to escort him to his room once, but he yelled at them and said he wanted to continue drinking.

“He drank until the bar closed and seemed stressed,” a member of the bar staff told police.

After the bar closed no one had seen or heard from Mr Palin again until they were notified of the body floating in the sea.

Police are currently gathering more information.

It seems that every day now, some farang is found dead. Makes me wonder.

Something about Thai Islands. Young people go out and get drunk but only in Thailand do so many die.

The police could learn to keep their mouth's shut until they have investigated.

See my post above, seems like at least in the US they do.

It is not that hard. When I was young & more stupid over Xmas/New Year celebrations & after some heavy drinking I decided enough & walked back to the camp at around 11pm with the assistance of 2 young ladies. Feeling very groggy I decided to freshen up by having a dip in the lake. Next thing I woke up a long way out, disorientated & with a wind swell whipping up, not the best place to be. It seemed to take forever to swim back to shore especially as I was getting mouth fulls of water from the swell. I relate this just to show how easy it can be to drown. I thought I would that night although at one stage after thinking it would be so easy just to slip away as my life was flashing through my head I decided I still had lots to see & do in this life.

Your point is negated...you didn't drown.

What, you don't ever want to hear from them again?

Fully justifying Thailand's well documented reputation as being one of the most dangerous destinations for tourists in the world.

Seen the Daily Mail today?

No because it is blocked in Thailand www.dailymail.co.uk

I've just been able to look at www.dailymail.co.uk and I live in Thailand. However I can't find anything in today's news that is of any great interest other than a feature on Medical Care in foreign countries which places Thailand in the average/middle ground for quality of care. Is there another more 'interesting' news item somewhere else in the Daily Mail?. If so, 'Seelow' can you please enlighten me?
