Nine years of love culiminate in wedding of two women

Kanchanaburi:- A wedding reception in Kanchanaburi province on Saturday night seemed like another common celebration of love, except that both the bride and her groom are female.

Pennapa Saengthong, 32, who considers herself the groom, wore black trousers, a matching black jacket and a black bow tie. Standing next was Kannikar Meejai, 36, in her white wedding dress.

About 500 people showed up to congratulate the couple at their wedding reception. Both women work as sales clerks for a cell-phone distributor.

Pennapa and Kannikar met nine years ago, and have since developed their romantic relationships under the eyes of their parents.

“Our parents have understood us,” Kannikar said.

She said she dared not hope that her wedding would set a precedent for other same-sex couples. “We are just doing what will make up happy and our parents’ wish fulfilled. They want to see us getting married,” the bride said.

Kannikar said she had chosen Pennapa as her better half because Pennapa has always stood by her.

“Her love and care for me has never wavered throughout the past nine years,” she said.

Pennapa said she appreciated the fact that Kannikar has been very understanding, supportive and forgiving.

“Love is beautiful when it blossoms. And it happens not just among heterosexuals,” Pennapa says.

On her wedding day, Pennapa vowed to live happily ever after with her bride.

At present, Thailand has not recognized same-sex marriage. Several LGBT advocates are now pushing for the change of law to ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexuals will be able to legally register their marriage too.

good luck to the girls..be happy...though some on here might not think that...

Congratulations to the bride and the groom. It seems that the ceremony was more of the western variety than a traditional Thai wedding.

Good for them!

Hope, they will find the happiness they seek and deserve!

LOVE is LOVE is LOVE.

Congratulations!

Hopefully it will be a stepping stone for all couples who wish to legalize their marriage and be recognized by the state.

Some good and happy news for a Monday morning. Good luck the them.
