Born In Thailand But No Citizenship

Featured Replies

i was born in thailand on 07/sep/1985. I was born in Phayathai 1 Hospital and have a birth certificate. My parents are from India and they have been here from 20 years. They have Resident permit and both have a business of their own. My parents have tried alot to get me a thai nationality but i could never get one. Their contacts might be limited. so i thought of finding my way out over the internet and came to your site. I have graduated from Ekamai International school and have been student of ABAC university and MAHIDOL unversity but currently in Bangkok school of Management (Bachlor's Degree). Please help me out if you can. If there is any other information you would like from me then please contact me.

Thanking You,

Born by foreign parents other than Thai? - out of luck mate via birth right.

I would think about looking at residency as a first step rather than citizenship. If your parents were permanent residents when you were born, then you should have been automatically granted Thai nationality by birth. But by the sounds of it, they weren't, hence your inability to obtain thai nationality via birth.

I know you have probably 'been there and done that', you should really talk to immigration again about firstly getting residency so you can stay in Thailand indefinetly. Given your ties to Thailand and your upbringing here, there may be a more informal process available to people in your situation.

It is now 2006 so birth-date plus almost 22 years. Should the "have" be "had" by any chance?

Although there are currently provisions for legal children of legal residents to apply for citizenship am not sure how far back these laws go. You should probably be asking a legal firm and know the exact legal status of your parents at your time of birth.
