I entered Thailand about 4 months ago on a one year multiple-entry non-immigrant B visa which I obtained from a consulate in the USA with minimal documents. I got a job with a work permit and my initial 90 day entry was extended (to correspond to the work permit) until mid-January 2007.

Unfortunately the job didn’t work out as planned and I will be leaving my job, but remaining in Thailand, at the end of the month. My employer’s work permit/visa lawyer has told me that my original one year non-immigrant B visa, which I first utilized in May was cancelled when the 90 days I was granted on entry was extended to mid-January, but there are no markings on the one year multiple-entry non-immigrant B visa stamp in my passport to indicate that this is true.

Basically it appears that when I turn in my work permit and report to the immigration office at Suan Phlu (as required by law, I believe) I will have the usual 7 days to leave the country and when I return to Thailand (from a border crossing) the one year non-immigrant B will not be recognized and I will get a 30 day transit pass.. I suspect they will spend some time perusing my various previous visas and make a notation on the one year non-immigrant multiple-entry visa.

I don’t have a re-entry stamp, so I’m wondering if I skip going to immigration and just go to a border if they will just look at the one-year non-immigrant B visa and give me another 90 days. I wonder if that might cause problems down the road.

Anybody have a similar experience? Is this the sort of thing a little tea money might rectify at the immigration office?

Thanks!

As far as I know you will only lose your one year extension of stay. You can still return for a new 90 day entry using your original visa if it is still valid. And if you find a new job do the same work permit/extension of stay process again.
