I have started connecting to Australian radio through the internet. Leaving it on most of the day. We can only seem to get AIS where I am up country (with any speed) and we only get 12GB per month for 800 baht. I was getting 100GB in Australia for around the same money.

I can give you an example of my own usage. I stream radio for ~3 hours a day, 4 or 5 days a week primarily while at the gym. I don't use data for much more than that; usual background sync'ing of email, social media and a very few pages of web browsing.

That on average uses around 5-7GB/month

Also, even EGDE speeds which you get throttled too once the larger 3G package in used is fast enough to stream internet radio.

No problem with speed. It works perfectly. Im just worried about using my 12gb up too fast. Obviously can go and buy more but trying to economise.

Many radio streams come with 128 kbit/s (as SoiBiker assumed).

Some stations offer smaller bandwidth streams (good enough for listening to the news etc.).

What package you have?

Is it a strict volume package or is it time based and they cap the bandwith after the volume?

AIS should have packages that would better fit the purpose of listening to the radio, like time based packages with 384 kBit/s flat.

Its the best one they have (I think?) 799THB for 4gb with extra 8gb (12gb total) for free or whatever it is. They have so much BS and hidden promos and tricks to make you think you are getting free stuff hard to tell. AIS is the only company we get decent WIFI speed where I am (rural Isaan). We use the internet for a lot of other stuff too of course, not only sound. Just trying to be thrifty

So, yea. we're suggesting the OP

save the 12GB SIM for other critical high-speed or quick download requirements (using second phone or Pocket WiFi)

get a second SIM and lower-rate unlimited package dedicated for Internet Radio. Listen all you want without depleting data.

AIS recently 'had' (past tense) a nice "฿69 7-day 384kbps Unlimited" package -but- now that same code gives "฿69 7-day 570MB HighSpeed then 64kbps FUP".

So I just purchased a TRUE Move-H sim and using their "฿59 7-day 512kbps Unlimited" package.

Luckily we have True 3G 2100 while I'm here in Chiang Mai for the week.

12GB? Where do you get a 12GB package? May I ask how much you pay? prepaid or postpaid?

Sorry, I should have read your whole post then I would know. AIS 12GB 800 Baht/month - good deal! I just bought for my wife with her new True 4G smart phone a "special package" 3+1.5 GB = 450 Baht for a 6-month period. Then it'll creep back to its normal price. Then we'll go to AIS, I guess.

Well I think I mentioned all that but it's AIS, actually a 4Gb package but get 8gb free (12gb total) and unlimited at slow speed after that. 799 baht a month I pay one time every month. Not sure if that means pre or post paid

This package must be new last year not see have old true h promotion 599 Bhat 3 gb and then 384!kb until I reach 10 gigs at home have tot DSL not need higher package!

A friend have ais air in other village but no tot

How is the ping and latency rate of ais air wifi comparing to DSL?

Haha. It's reasonably fast for watching video, movies etc without stopping. Other than that I haven't got a clue what Ur talking about

I suggest you check your AIS coverage before you switch, because I'm living only 10km outside Pattaya and my AIS coverage at my place was horrible ( and then I'm nice), while True and Dtac are pretty good.

AIS is known for having bad antenna set up.

@OP: You should try contacting your local TOT office and see if their Wi-Net service (long range WiFi) is available in your area. Apparently that have been doing major expansion of the network in Isaan over the last year. That starts from about 600 Baht/mth with unlimited data (but limited speed).

3G is the most expensive way to connect to the net, and just too expensive to even think about things like watching YouTube or IPTV, using a PS/Xbox etc.

G'day

I'm on 3BB here in Chiang Mai, which is unlimited. Only the speed is the factor determining payment, and mine is 10Mb and it costs ฿ุ630 per month.

I have ABC radio and community radio from Australia going a lot of the day, and afternoons and evening I stream UK TV and also Australia + which has decent programs on in the afternoons/evening.

If I want more up to date news, as Melbourne/Sydney are 4 hours behind Thailand, I go to ABC Perth, which is only 1 hour behind. If you're a 'Makka on Sundays" fan, Perth is the way to go.

Depending on your version of Android, you should be able to check your data usage.

Also, if you are somewhere where you can get free WiFi, turn off the data from your SIM.

You will get the internet at the speed of the WiFi service and not use any of your SIM data.

If you have files to download like attachments, pictures, OS updates to perform etc. try to do them in a free WiFi zone.

If you're connected to a wifi network your phone will use it instead of 3g anyway - there's no need to turn it off.

Maybe it was the iPad that continued to use it then, back in OS v 7 days?
