Is your pool safe to swim in? Trust your local pool guy?

The pool at my local hotel in phimai is now pea green with visibility,I use a mask and snorkel, about 1 metre(can't see the bottom in the shallow end)! Over the past 4/5 months it has gone from clear to green back to clear and now to really green, and yes you can see the grouting and where they have patched broken tiles crumbling away and slimy with algae. It gets worse the more people use it and now quite busy with hot weather and school holidays. A few months ago I would often be the only person there nearly all day.

The other day I found a small boulder size lump of white chemical (no odour) with quite sharp edges so not great in the shallow end! I showed it to a staff member who said it helped clean the pool and chucked it back in.

They clearly have no idea or interest in pool maintenance. A friend who has a pool maintenance business in samui says the Thais are absolutely useless even when showed exactly what to do,just going back to what they did previously.

There is nowhere else for me to go swimming and it's my main activity. I've never been ill, perhaps protected a bit by mask/snorkel but clearly concerned by how dangerous it might be. Guess I'm not going to like the replies!

My neighbour just handed me my test kit back and said her pool is good now!

:/ that strip is a test of their pool now.

That looks indeed like a healthy pool laugh.png

If your neighbor didnt give you the strip within the allotted time then theres no way to see the correct results?

The strips may change a little in color after they dry out, but they will not go from what is supposed to be green, purple, orange, green and light brown to all yellow. I have the same strips and the strip in used 3 hours ago is now completely dried out but all colors are still like they were at the time of testing.

That pool from the neighbor is simply a breeding ground for bacteria.

............which makes me wonder why the lady said her pool "is good now", after she did the test strip???!!!

Is she perhaps colour blind?

She dipped it and handed it straight to me.

Edit: perhaps its stubborn pride. I told her its a bad result and she smiled and said thanks its ok now.

I trust my pool guy that is why I gave him the key to the gate , I don't think he will steal anything :)

As for the pool? no, i have a test kit, anything off the chart I will know.

I grew up with a backyard pool. We'd sprinkle a cup of chlorine around it every night, throw in some hydrochloric acid once a week. It might have got tested once every two or three years. Everybody in the neighborhood used it. I'm sure it had its fair share of pee. We never had a complaint of anybody getting sick or infections in the 15 plus years we had the house.
