Hello

A friend of mine, a 28 year old Thai woman who is currently living in America on a 2 year working visa is interested in visiting the UK for a holiday. She isn't my girlfriend or coming to visit me exclusively she just wants to do some sightseeing etc. Possibly for one week maybe two. She has asked me to find out some info for her. Would her being in America already give her a better chance? She has family in America that's how she got a job and U.S. Visa I think. Obviously her having a job and being settled there give her a reason to return. What sort of information would she have to provide to make a case for herself? Or is it a no go as a single Thai woman with no connections here?

Thanks in advance for any replies and answers.

As with any applicant for a UK Visit Visa she will need to prove that the proposed visit is genuine, affordable and that on the balance of probabilities she will leave the UK at the conclusion of her visit.

I don't think that on its own being in America will give her a better chance, but the fact she has been given an American visa, and no doubt jumped through a number a hurdles wouldn't do her any harm.

She will need to prove that she can afford this trip and give the reasons for the trip and outline her plans, maybe even add why she wants to do it in the middle of her working visa.

As you suggest the fact she has a job in the US will probably be sufficient to satisfy the ECO of her reasons to return, she will need to provide evidence of her job as well as confirmation that her employers are content for her to take time off. She should also provide details of her other ties in the US.

I think she has a good a chance as any applicant, the fact that she's a single Thai female, in itself, shouldn't prevent her getting entry clearance.

good luck to her, whilst I understand the need for immigration controls, I was ashamed by the hurdels my fiance had to jump through to visit the UK with me for 3 months.

All I would say is complete the form and provide exactly what is requested, nothing more and nothing less.

Best of luck to her

Thanks for the replies and answers. I've passed the information on but it turns out things haven't gone to plan for her in America for one reason or another so she is off back home this week.

I'm sure the experience will do her good though and she may look to travel again in the near future.

Thanks again.
