Pongsatron Suwannanurak, 27, admitted to falling asleep at the wheel before losing control of the vehicle.

PHUKET: -- A green plate taxi driver will be charged with reckless driving after he fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle and crashed into electric pylon in Thalang earlier today (March 16).

At 10:15am Thalang Inspector Lt Col Sanit Nookong, was called to investigate a car crash on the southbound side of Thepkasattri Rd in front of the Kitchen Tech Manufacturing Company.

Thalang police arrived at the scene with Kusolharm rescue workers and officials from Srisoonthon Municipality to find the Phuket registered green plate taxi in a ditch smashed into an electric pylon.

The driver, Pongsatron Suwannanurak, 27, from Bangkok was still trapped inside the vehicle. He was taken out by rescue workers and taken to Thalang hospital with chest and back injuries.

Pongsatron told police that he had just dropped off passengers at Phuket International Airport and was heading back towards Phuket Town when he fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.

The car crashed into the ditch and then slammed into the pylon, police were told.

Police took the vehicle to Thalang Police Station and said that Pongsatron will face being charged with reckless driving.

thank god for the tourists ..

what would happen, if you hailed a cab and the driver has clearly blood shed eyes ? (or all of them)

Oh my, luckily he didn't take out a crowd of people

Believe it or not,my wife went to sleep during a driving lesson, happily the instructor was awake!!

I thought the name on the door was supposed to match the name of the driver?

Shows there's a lot of money in the taxi business if Bangkok drivers are now coming here. There are way too many green plated "taxi drivers" as it is, without having people from other provinces coming to grab their piece of the pie.

Too many Chang or too Little M150 .... ? What a douche bah.gif
