Police are seeking to arrest the son of customs chief Keo Sokheang and two alleged accomplices over a shooting incident at a popular Phnom Penh club owned by tycoon Kith Meng.

Colonel Bun Sathya, chief of Phnom Penh’s criminal investigations unit, said that the authorities were searching for Keo Vitou, the son of customs department chief Sokheang, for allegedly firing 11 rounds from an AK-47 rifle into the Rock Entertainment Centre in Chamkarmon district’s Boeng Trabek commune in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Along with Vitou, police are also searching for Sokheang’s brother-in-law and their bodyguard.

“[Vitou] got into an argument and became angry with another group in the Rock [Entertainment Centre]. He took the weapon from his car and fired many bullets . . . then escaped from the scene,” Sathya said.

Colonel Mak Hong, chief of Sen Sok district police, said the three suspects had escaped in their Lexus 570, which they parked outside the SEATV station office in Sek Sok’s Teuk Thla commune, following the shooting at about 4am.

Police seized an AK-47 rifle with 10 bullets left in the clip along with several documents from the Lexus, which was sent to municipal police headquarters to be held as evidence.

“We have already identified the names [of the suspects] now,” Hong added. “We will arrest them soon.”

Before the car was seized by police, the occupants destroyed the licence plate and threw it away in an attempt to destroy evidence, Hong said.
