BANGKOK: -- A U.S. fugitive arrested on Koh Lanta off Krabi last week after living on the run for six years in Thailand has been linked to another death of an Australian backpacker in Thailand.

Kelly Lynn Miller, 36, who fled to Thailand in 2009 to avoid a five-year sentence for killing a man in a fatal car accident while under the influence, apparently worked at an unlicensed medical clinic on Koh Phangan offering a radical form of treatment for drug addiction.

Miller, who has no medical training, worked as an assistant to the two American expats behind Ibogaine Thailand, where Australian Brodie Smith, 33, died while undergoing treatment for drug addiction using a controversial technique using an African root.

The three have been accused of treating Smith with Ibogaine, a potentially dangerous herbal hallucinogen which is believed by some to be a successful, last-ditch means of curing drug addiction.

My thoughts are not with her lipstick, they are with both the man who died in the clinic where she worked and the man she killed in the US with her car. RIP.

Apparently if you are good looking (or rich) enough, then you aren't really guilty of anything. Jail is only meant for poor, ugly people. If you happen to be somewhat photogenic then the internet will rally behind you, regardless of your crimes. Like that Crips gangbanger in California that has been offered a modelling contract. Or the girl with the "really cute mugshot" who was arrested, again, (but she's cute so it's OK). (http://pix11.com/2015/03/06/cute-mugshot-girl-arrested-again-has-new-cute-booking-photo/)

Wasn't that also one of the criticisms over the Shapelle Corby incident ? That the only reason she got as much press and sympathy as she did was because she happened to be better looking than most of the others that have been busted for smuggling (including other Australian women) ?

(I don't think it's going to work for Ms Miller though.)

She needs to be mellowed out in a thai prison for a decade or so then sent home for the five years.......

The only qualifications that have this self-appointed doctors is that they have probably tried all kind of drugs in their lives.
Next time there is then a magic mushroom cure with stone fish extract.
Hope all three quacks come into the prison.

one dose of ibogaine could overnight kill the cravings for hard drug users

but, not allowed in USA , but available in Canada & Mexico ...

guess it is better for the drugs company to sell them methadone and for the street dealers, whatever goes

The drug is not licensed in Canada for drug addiction therapy. The root itself is not banned, but the extract still comes under the natural health products registry. At this time, no licensed health care provider will touch it because;

1. Safety issues with known serious adverse reactions;

2. NO clinical trials that demonstrate its effectiveness or safety.

A lot of controlled or banned drugs are available in Mexico, but that doesn't make them effective.

What's next, coffee enemas and voodoo chants?

They have lipstick in Alabama? w00t.gif

The expression that you can't put lipstick on a pig is quite popular in Mobile AL.

The saying is "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig."

Yes...she is from Alabama.

Pic don't show..., does she have a 'Banjo' on her knee?

If she had been an actress she could have done all the psycho roles... the child-killing nurse... the bunny-boiler... Grendel's mother...

just a remark ... since the 1970's

the war was declared on CANCER

is it cured now, after about 2 trillion dollars of tax payers money has been spent ???

clinical trials never happen on products that cannot be patented, read: made big bucks out of it

so the only thing that goes is : poison, radiation or surgery

hey, on the other side, coca cola just used a network of diaticians, to tell the public that drinking coca cola is HEALTHY

Cancer is a collection of illnesses that does not have one singular cause. The fact is that there have been great successes in cancer treatments. In the 1970's multiple forms of cancer such as breast, prostate and skin were death sentences. Now the survival rates are significantly better. People with lung cancer used to die within months. Now, with treatment they can have another 5-10 years. Hodgkins Lymphoma and many pediatric cancers can be put into remission for 20+ years or even a lifetime.

Your comment on clinical trials is BS. You know nothing about clinical trials and the false comment that clinical trials never happen on drugs that cannot be patented is an outright falsehood. Clinical trials occur every week for drugs that fall outside of patents.

The fact is that the drug in question has never been proven to be effective. If the drug was so successful, why hasn't one group ever done a trial to see if it works? The promotors in Thailand could easily set up a trial, provided they agreed to review and followed basic ethical practices. They won't because they know this is a bogus drug that exploits people desperate for help.

there are about 300+ natural cancer threatments

even from sloan kettering there was one about B17

it has been shelved like many others & called quackery

before the AMA took over medicine, there was a choice of conventional doctors & natural healers

you know who started the AMA, the same that own the drug companies

clinical trials are made for drugs where the patent is about to expire and they change one little small thing, to get another patent to sell big bucks for the next 20 years ...

and in those trial, what the big pharma has to try to prove, is that it is just a slight % better than doing NOTHING AT ALL

more people die in the USA of CANCER THREATMENT, than off the cancer itself

are you a shareholder of one of the big one's?

more cancer, sure it has nothing to do with DIET, a healthy lifestyle, avoiding sugar, smoking, overeating, ... right ?

just take a pill, for your conscience, in stead of trying to live better and fill up with your cola & hamburgers ...

everybody has the right to chose what they want

most are still blinded that the good doctor is there to help you ... while they are there to fill their pockets ... you get a few minutes in a doctors office and then it is .. NEEEEXXTT

medicine = business

cancer = mega big business ... 50.000 - 150.000$ for a cancer THREATMENT, never a CURE

live max. 5 years more, but broke and die in pain of the chemo, radiation, surgery ....

even the 5 years is a big lie, as the statistics only take 3 months

never to late to get informed

only stupid people never change their mind

off topic.
This threat is about dubious quacks who have no medical training, no license to operate a clinic and experimenting with dangerous hallucinations drugs which led to the death of a person, who has thought to be in professional hands.
