I am looking for some information about applying for a non-ed visa for my 4 y.o. son and a non-o (guardian) visa for my wife.

Some background: We are all UK citizens, I have been working overseas while my wife and son have been staying in Thailand on and off since September 2013 (originally on a non-o and subsequently on tourist visas). Since entering Thailand in January this year on a 30 day exemption they have both had a 30 day extension followed by a single entry tourist visa issued in Vientiane on 19th Feb. This gives them until mid-May before they need another solution.

My son is enrolled in an international school. The school have said that they can provide us with the following documents:

1. Letter of acceptance from the concerned academic institute/organisation

2. Copy of registration certificate of the concerned academic institute

3. An official letter from the Ministry of Education of Thailand, or other sub-authorities concerned, approving the enrolment of foreign students

My wife has opened a Thai bank account and deposited 500,000 baht which we understand is required for her guardian visa. This has been open about 2 weeks.

So our questions:

Can both the non-ed and non-o visas be obtained together or do we need to obtain the non-ed first?

Could they both be obtained in Vientiane? Or do we need to go further afield?

Is the 500k deposit required for my wife’s non-o application or is it just for the subsequent extension of stay?

I have read that the deposit must be aged 3 months, but also for the first application this is reduced to 1 month. Can anyone clarify and could the non-o from Sept 13 affect this?

Many thanks for any advice.

She can get the non-o at the same time your son gets his non-ed visa. She will need his birth certificate and a copy to prove relationship to get the non-o visa. No need to show the 500k baht in the bank.

Vientiane Laos would be the best choice for getting the visas..

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entries the visa will allow the can both apply for their extensions of stay (not a visa). You son would get one based upon attending school and your wife one based upon being the parent of a child attending school. She will need to prove the 500k baht in the bank for 30 days at that time.
