MOPH Minister: 15,000 Family Care Team established in 3 months

BANGKOK, 19 March 2015 (NNT) – The Family Care Team project has progressed with establishing 15,000 teams in its 3-month run, while targeting the establishment of up to 30,000 teams within this year, says the Public Health Minister.


The Minister of Public Health Rajata Rajatanavin has said regarding the progress of the government’s efforts to tackle public inequality and healthcare improvement policies, that the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has established the Family Care Team project, which is a breakthrough reformation of healthcare services in the cities and rural areas to cover all households in the country.

The project deploys the Family Care Teams from the Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospitals to take care of the public at their homes, along with the work from local volunteers, the establishment of a 24 hour consulting telephone line, and a seamless patient referring system.

The Minister of Public Health has disclosed the progress of this project since, that the launch in December 2014, there are currently 14,957 Family Care Teams taking care of 54,959 people who are in need of assistance, namely the ill elders who are unable to help themselves, persons with disabilities who require assistance, and terminally ill patients.

He has also cited that provinces undergoing this project had resulted in improvements of the patients' quality of life.

The ministry is expecting a result of at least 30,000 Family Care Teams by the end of this year.
