Rayong Monk Pleads For Return of Stolen Lotto

By Khaosod Eng.

RAYONG - A monk in Rayong province has asked police to help return the prize money won from lottery tickets that were allegedly stolen from his temple while he was praying.

Phra Sao Theepathammo, 68, deputy abbot of Nong Pak Nam Temple, told police on 20 March that the four lottery tickets he purchased were missing. According to Phra Sao, the number on the tickets, 048151, was drawn as the first prize winner in the government lottery on 16 March.

The tickets are worth 16 million baht in prize money.

Speaking to Khaosod yesterday, Phra Sao said he kept the lottery tickets in a bag in his monk’s residence. He believes the perpetrator broke into the room and stole the tickets while was praying.

Miracle!!!!!

The monks prayers were answered.

Doesn't matter who got the money.....it's the winning that counts.

I would suggest he start looking within a hundred meter radius of his residence.

Since the claim was made by a Thai holy brother, it must be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!!

Monks are not allowed to gamble!!

It can't be classed as gambling. Otherwise it'd be banned.

What is not said, was the ticket stolen before or after the draw?

More to the point, did he know it was a winning ticket, and had he told anybody???

This sort of thing does not do the image of Buddhism much good.

I have doubts there ever were any winning tickets.

Perhaps the monk needs a refresher course in Buddhism. I suggest the section on avoiding avarice and games of chance.

Next question, will any senior monks talk to him about his inappropriate activity?

After they finish the next money laundering

Maybe it's all just a figment of his imagination... at that age many people are easily confused.

errrr.... a monk, spent money on lottery tickets, a game of chance.... and how casually must access to money be to be flippant and spend it on entertainment. Why has this guy not been smacked around by his abbot or the Bib on direction of the abbot. this thread is making my headache worse.

Monks are not allowed to gamble!!

Why does a monk need to buy lottery tickets? Surely he has given up the normal world to live in the Buddhist world?

Crosses my mind that man who has no income decided to become a monk and then bought some lottery tickets. If he won the lottery would he give up being a monk so he can enjoy his winnings (wine, women, sex, etc)?

Reason I mention this is I know of a man of dishonest reputation who did become a monk because he could not get a job because of his bad past. When he had made sufficient money as a monk to afford to get back into society, he dis robed and became a layman again. Then he found himself a wife and now has two new children.

If you want to become a good Buddhist, put your faith in the teachings of Buddha and not in a man in orange clothing...

After supposedly winning the lottery he will now become a revered monk and attract a million($) followers.

Lotto drawing on March 16. Next day check winning numbers in paper. Do you, waste no time in the claiming prize or put tickets in bag for safekeeping and they get stolen 4 days after drawing. That's what everyone would do. Makes sense to me. Duh. I guess interrogating the ticket vendor, will solve the crime. Everyone knows ticket vendors have photographic memory, of all the lottery ticket numbers they sold and who bought them. Good luck 55555

For a second I thought, you were talking about Suthep........................coffee1.gif

Am I wrong suspecting the money for the tickets came from devotees as donations to the temple to do something good?

The ticket vendor will definitely have a list of the tickets he purchased and sold.

If the "winning" number is not on his list.....

I do know for a fact, that sometimes people who give food, clothing etc. to monks, sometimes give them a lotto ticket. And also for a fact, that sometimes monks buy lotto tickets from the money that people sometimes give them. Gambling is against the rules for monks, so both should be avoided.. But it happens, I've seen it often. But I just can't for the life of me understand how this deputy abbot could have kept his winning ticket in his bag when he knew it was a big winner. He should have gave it to either the abbot or his family. I have this strange feeling, he was going to dis-robe and start a new family. Otherwise he wouldn't have been hiding it. Just my intuition. coffee1.gif

Just look for the monk that is driving a Rolls Royce. Pound to a penny, that's the thief. wai.gif

That is the same loto tkt number i had but i washed it by accident 555
