My visa expires the 31st of this month. My work permit is valid till the 30th of April.

However my school will not renew my contract and I have to leave the country. I have a letter of the school stated that my contract ends the 1st of April.

I am planning to go to Nong Khai on Sunday 29th of March and leave the country on the 30th of March. Apply for a new visa and come back 31st of March.

I can apply for Non-O retirement, but according to Immigration in Hua Hin I can't change that to a Non-B if I ( possibly ) find a new job in the coming weeks.

Or I can apply for a double entry Tourist visa which I can change to a Non-O retirement or a Non-B....

Any body who can give me a advice what the best things are can do?

Do I have to cancel my work permit and pay for the extension for 7 days or can I just leave because i have this letter from school ?

Are there more complications to be expected because my current visa I used for 9 years...

THank you for your replies.

Your work permit does not have to be canceled to leave the country.

If you have letter stating you job is ending immigration at Nong Khai will cancel your extension of stay when you leave the country.

If you get a non-o visa based upon retirement you will not be able to apply for a work permit or apply for an extension based upon working or teaching.

If you get a tourist visa you would be able to change it to a non immigrant visa entry at Bangkok immigration based upon qualifying for retirement.

There is a slim chance you would be able to change it to non immigrant visa based upon teaching or working at immigration in Bangkok. Most people have to go out for the non-b visa.

Thank you for your quick reply Ubonjoe,

So with my letter from school stated that I finished the 1st of April I can leave on the 30th of March without cancelling my work permit?

Did they change the changing of visa in Bangkok, because i hear more that people are possible to change there tourist visa in a non -B

Beg to differ, I would think it would be better to cancel the work permit anyway. Once when applying for a work permit, I was sent to the police station to pay a 1000 Baht fine because I had refrained from cancelling a previous work permit.

He asked about leaving the country. Canceling the work permit is not needed for that.

The work permit should be canceled. But that is separate from canceling the extension of stay.
