What to do in Udon Thani? Update 2015 please

So I have just arrived in Udon Thani to live her for a few months, per advise of an expat who tells me it is the best place in Thailand for people like me, who like the more down to earth relaxed athmosphere and friendly people. I have done my research on the web and info from my expat friend. Have been here for 4 days and I must say it is a wonderful place. Enough to do at daytime but at night time I'm bored to death. I can find the nightmarket and central plaza and the farang bar areas. But Is there anything more.. interesting? Those venues close at midnight and then Udon seems like a ghost town.

I have done research and found indeed more. They seem outdated info so I am wondering if anyone based and knowledable in Udon Thani can give some suggestions and info. I can find nutty park, day and night, I like to have a few drinks and play pool there but not really my cup of tea. I am a relatively young guy (<40) I like to socialise with ''regular'' girls and if possible find a nice girl to be my gf/onenightstand/gik.

What I have found on the web are; yellow bird disco, tawang daeng, disco at napalai hotel, Hi-tec, Mr tong. Do thses clubs still exists? If yes, what is your advise on those clubs as in what are the geographics of thse clubs and do you have any more to add? please add more to this list. Thai clubs and bars are fine as well as I like to improve my Thai and the birds in Thai places are always prettier.

Hmmmm......all this blah blah about Udon and the resume is;

Help me to find a g/f.

C'mon, Datebayo, you are a big boy of 40 now.

You can find your own g/f and don't be so impatient, you've only been 4 days there.

Unfortunately they don't grow on trees and it takes some effort and lots of Bull to get one.

Best of Luck to you and waiting in anticipation for your next post;

My g/f cheated me what shall I do now?

Yellowbird is a good place to meet some girls, but you might be past your prime for some of the girls that go there. The music is great there, and it stays open pretty late. I used to get there around 11pm and it was just getting started.

You might also look into going to Nong Prajak Park between 5 - 7pm. Take a walk around the 4km walking path, or rent a bike, and you will see some of Udons finest ladies there. You can buy some fish food and feed the fish on the bridge, and strike up a conversation with someone. There is also an aerobics class on the walking path near the fire station that is a thrill to watch. Most of the women in the class are between 30 and 40 and most are in great shape. There is also a yoga class not too far from there that starts in the early evening.

Or that fails, you can get some business cards printed out that say in Thai and English, "Single man looking for gf/onenightstand/gik. Please call the number below" and go to Central Mall and hand them out.

And if all else fails, join one of the Thai dating sites. TF, TLL, TK. I recommend any of them if you are lonely.

Chok dee.

Thanks rideswing, your post was very helpful. I'm certainly not past my prime, I have many years to go before hitting the 40 mark and I look younger than my actual age. I have been to Nong prajak and it is a true heaven on earth indeed. The most beautiful women of Thailand go there it seems.

i live in udon thani for a good few years now , but dont go out much at night times as the BIB are stopping you all the time trying to get there " tea money " . afternoons and early doors are o.k with quite a few about , but you need to remember this is " udon " not " pattaya " if your after finding a single local girl try the thai bars near to nong prajak there are many ,

Plenty of late night spots. You named most of the popular ones. What you will not find are the many "welcome" girls lining the streets. If you like dancing and loud music...Yellow Bird and Tawang Daeng are pretty close together. Napolai is a bit further, but looks like an interesting stop. Mr Tongs has a bunch of "freelance..wanna be highso types". More bucks for the bang. Believe me, I known guys that bought cars for some of those ladies. They are into the the high maintenance mode, and will drop you like a rock as soon as you have gone through your savings.

My fun came just by networking with non prostitutes. You can do that in any nearby town or village, but at least far from soi samphan. Just try chatting with somebody closer to your age. Many divorced/now single ladies, who would love to have a farang boyfriend. Just don't get serious right away. Meet their friends, attend some weddings (if invited). It is quite fun have lady friends who you did not barfine. Not as cute..but more fun. You will be soon be invited to go out to many places, in and around Udon.

Udon is not Pattaya...or anything like it. That is it's strength. If you want "Adult action late at night"...you should settle down in Pattaya or Phuket.

There is nothing to do in Udon. The police are at every intersection collected tea money for their mia nois, if we had intersections. There are no real roads, just dirt buffalo tracks. There are no bars, no clubs, no women, no beer, no food, no phones, no women, no internet, no banks, no malls, no TV, no women, no airport, no restaurants, no bus service, no women, no drainage, no hotels, no housing, no women, nothing, nada, zip. Go home. Oh if there were women, and you meet one from Bandung, run like hell Forest, run Forest run. They are all bat-shit crazy, but there are no women so don't worry. The same goes from Nong Khai but the buffalo track is very hard to find and a long walk from Udon. There are man eating tigers everwhere, but first they steal your wallet. There is no Friendship Bridge to Vientiane but if there were and you find a Lao lady there and the cops find you together, you and her would be well up shit-creek without a paddle.

Yes --There is a great feeling (movement) among a lot of the farang locals that one should do everything to discourage any new (Especially younger) male farang visitors.

You have just met one above----- you can meet many more on their local forums (2 of them)

Its a great place for women, both Lao & Thai...................coffee1.gif

Ahem, now oxo, if there were any women up here (there aren't) it's not that we wouldn't want to share, it's we absolutly don't want to share...lol. Too many LDOP's, Lame Dope Over Payers around. The flotsam from Pattaya tends to wash up too much these days. But there are no women, my story and I'm stickin' to it. There are definitely man devouring tigress always on the prowl for new money, ah I meant victims, no I mean blood, oh hell it's all about the money, money, money honey. The Lao women, if there were any which there never were, have for the most part returned to Lao. Too much heat from the military/cops. Nothing to see here, move on now.

sgtsabai, you are not helping my topic, which is about things to do in Udon thani. Your ramblings are a joke and unbelievably trollesque. Can a mod remove his negativity and topic hijack please.

As on Udon thani. It is indeed not a place for people who likes the easy women of pattaya and phuket. It's more of an local town. A slower kind of pace in life. You gotta love it, or don't.

Well if you're not looking for fast women ann want to enjoy a slow & peaceful life, why are you on here looking for tips on hot-spots?

Stay at home, pray and meditate, or perhaps medicate depending on you preference.

SgtSabai is just having a laugh Datebayo, don't mind his posts :)

In regards to your questions, I've only ever visited Udon rather than lived there, but it seemed like there were bars a plenty there + a few nightclubs, mosty the ones you mentioned but I'm not sure on the names.

There are quite a lot of Farang in Udon, and no doubt you'll be able to meet some random guys there who can fill you in on the pros/cons of each of the various establishments.

Although if you're looking to meet a "good" girl, then meeting girls via mutual friends/colleagues, or at social events like weddings etc would be better. Failing that, meeting a girl in a "Thai" bar/club is significantly better than meeting a girl in a "Farang" bar/club, as remember that if a girl comes up to you in a bar, they're the hunter, not you, and you're the prey (Or rather, your wallet might be), so you need to be careful.
