Hat Yai seeks popular votes as the world's most lovable and sustainable city

HAT YAI, 26 March 2015 (NNT) - Songkhla's Hat Yai Municipality, a big southern city of Thailand, is inviting people to vote for it as the most lovable and sustainable city in the world, by Friday 27th March 2015.

The "We Love Hatyai” campaign is seeking votes to help the city win the People’s Choice Award which is part of the event "Earth Hour City: a Wake Up Call for Cities” organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) - the leading organization in wildlife conservation and protecting endangered species.

Songkhla’s Hat Yai Municipality is one of three cities in Thailand - along with Khon Kaen Municipality and Chumphon’s Mab-ammarit Municipality - which have been selected by the WWF as one of 47 environment-friendly cities in 17 countries around the world.

People can vote for Hat Yai through the following channels: tweet or instagram your post with #welovehatyai, press the button on the top of the page http://www.welovecities.org/hatyai/#vote or visit www.welovecity.org.

A vote for Hat Yai is also a vote for a sustainable future powered by renewable energy.

They better go for the contest for the city with the most surprise fireworks all year round...

This is so far off it could have been an idea of the TAT.

The thing I didn't like much about Hat Yai was the people walking around in civilian clothes carrying M16's.

The pattern seemed to be a couple of guys were investigating something like a motorbike and a couple of others with the rifles loitered around somewhere nearby.

Wasn't the most relaxing of environments ...

I've lived here a year and never seen that.

But I won't argue with you.

They should re-name the city to Rat Yai. I was there 10 miserable days and I couldn't believe how many rats we saw; a couple sitting under tables in a restaurant. A big night out was seeing how many cockroaches we could kill. Quiet during the week & invaded by rampant Malays at weekend. Summing up; it doesn't get my vote.

I think it's the incinerator out by the airport, they've stopped the landfill and now use waste to generate electricity. That's why we have daily refuse collection, they need to keep the turbine running.
