Ministry of Justice to add anti-corruption clause in Hire-Purchase Act

BANGKOK, 26 March 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Justice will include a clause in the Hire-Purchase Act to prosecute politicians convicted of embezzling state funds.

After presiding over the anti-corruption ceremony held to recognize outstanding civil servants, Justice Minister General Paiboon Khumchaya said that every administration has made anti-corruption a national agenda.

However, the current government has made the existing version of the Act more rigorous to punish any and all politicians found to have been involved in irregularities surrounding government hiring or purchasing.

The Office of the Council of State has been reviewing the amendment to the Act, which will later be examined by the National Legislative Assembly before being put into effect.

The Justice Minister hoped that the law will keep the purchase process free of corruption during this administration. He added that it is important for the government to have its own anti-corruption unit, given that most graft agencies operate independently. He reasoned that it is impossible for the government to take action without its own anti-corruption arm.
