Recent arrival into Koh Samui on Non Imm O visa

I have recently arrived on Koh Samui with a multiple entry Non Imm O visa.

What do I need to do prior to or when the first 90 days are up?

You will need to leave on or before your permitted to stay date and then re-enter the country to get a new 90 day entry.

If you can qualify for an extension of stay you could apply for it during the last 30 days of your 90 day entry.

Thank you for this ubanjoe but could you please explain the 2nd sentence. "If you can qualify for an extension of stay". How or what does one do to 'qualify for an extension of stay'

For what reason do you want to stay longer retirement? Other than you having a non-o and are on Koh Samui you haven't furnished enough information to give you an answer.

The most common reasons to apply for a 12-month extension of stay would be retirement or marriage to a Thai. Both have financial requirements associated with them, in addition to the obvious ones of age and marriage. With the multi-entry O visa, there is no requirement for age, marriage or finances -- you simply have to do a visa run every 90 days.

If 50 or over you can apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement. You will need 800k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 60 days or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the two.totaling 800k baht.

Marriage to a Thai or being the legal parent of Thai are other reasons for an extension.

We are seniors, both 66 and are looking at retirement here in Thailand. Only complication is that my husband is in a wheelchair, his speech and writing are not good. I was told by the consulate in Brisbane that we may not need to go out of the country every 90 days, it would depend on the Koh Samui Immigration Department. I am just trying to gather as much information as I can before I confront them.

The only way to avoid leaving the country is to apply for an extension based upon retirement.

If one of you can meet the financial requirements for the extension the other can get an extension as their dependent.

The 65k baht or the income portion of the 800k baht combined would be proven by doing a statutory declaration at the Australian embassy.

Samui Immigration will try to scam you for 5000 Baht.

Put 1900 baht in an envelope marked 'FEE 1900 BAHT'
