dddave
The picture would not load so I did not see it. I have no idea what exactly bit or contacted your friend but years ago, my GF was stung on her leg by jellyfish in Hua Hin. There was very little knowledgeable treatment available either locally in HH or in Bangkok. The inflammation and pain would subside for a week or so, then re-occur, each time as painful as previously. After failing to get successful treatment at Bumnungrad and the Police Hospital, we tried Yahhee Hospital in Bangkok...well known for cosmetic and..ahem.. gender reassignment surgery. They also have arguably one of the best dermatology departments around. Turns out, jellyfish have microscopic barbs that stay in the flesh and continually re-infect the wound. She was treated successfully at Yanhee but dark brown scars remain to this day.
Sheryl
Although this is health related, I am going to move it to the diving forum as I think our diving members would be the most likely to know.
Shurup
Haven't seen anything like it (and I've been stung by a jellyfish), but I have to ask why your friend didn't go and check it at the hospital?
nzexpat
Looks like the result of a Coral Cut rather than a bite. Such cuts can easily become infected and be life threatening . http://www.emedicinehealth.com/wilderness_coral_cuts/page5_em.htm
