Senior judges protest over limited roles
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- A NUMBER of senior judges whose retirement had been extended to cope with the backlog in the courts will today launch a campaign against a policy by the National Reform Council to limit their duties to the lower court.

Sri-amphorn Salikupt, a Supreme Court judge, said he hopes to acquire a hundred signatures and will begin collecting today.

Under the ongoing justice reform initiated by the NRC, the age of senior judges should be designated for those already retired at 60-65 years, and their supportive roles should be limited to the lower court. This policy is aimed at coping with the long-standing shortage of experienced judges, which has resulted in a large number of court cases taking years to complete.

The judges said a minor provision of the now-defunct 2007 constitution had somewhat solved the problem and eased the workload of the judges, especially with the help of senior judges or expertise judges whose retirement had been extended to cope with the workload.

it is not that they do a hard labour work ... unless their brain is much from all the power trip they have, they could work a bit longer? no ?

same as western politicians, asking everybody to work longer, while they enjoy, multiple incomes from meetings, board meeting, bribes, corruption &

retirement benefits after only 20 years of "office sitting

Don't like it? Don't work, stay retired!

I understand.

Why would you put an experienced supreme Court judge, who has the knowledge and expertise to deal with extremely complicated cases, especially political cases.

Into a lower court to deal with day to day crimes.

Who are going to be placed in the supreme Court positions?

Younger less experienced judges.

All chosen carefully by the current leader of course.

Correct me if I am wrong. But in America and other countries, a supreme Court judge has a lifetime appointment. I am sure they don't retire at 65.

It's like telling a top engineer of high rise buildings , to go back and work in construction of toilets .

I empathise with this poor old Supreme Court judge ... trying cases in the lower courts is going to be less lucrative for him.

It's just another example of how the junta intend to run Thailand with their appointees in all the positions of power.

It's all going to end in tears.

So, they want more work? More envelopes? More influence? What?

And if they don't get they will march up and down a soi? With banners and chanting in lockstep?

It is Supreme Court Justice not Judge Big difference they don't try cases they usually make judgement on cases of appeals or Points of law to bring clear view of what the law means. There word is final too.

Get use to it judges. This is the shape of things to come.
