Work permit

Featured Replies

Hay all I have a few questions about getting a work permit! I hope someone can shed some light on it for me I will be very grateful!!

Ok here goes

I am currently on a tourist visa which I have just renewed at Lao last week

When I got back I went for a walk in interview for a job maintenance at a hotel in samui.

The employer offered me the post if I want it but due to the last guy walking out and starting a new job the employer requires me to pay for my work permit if I want the job I guess thy don't want to spend more money on someone who may walk out for another job but thy will supply all paperwork so I can get the permit my questions I will list below

1 how do I apply for the work permit

2 how much dose it cost

3 do I need a medical if so how much would it appropriately cost

4 where should I go to apply for the permit bangkok or back to Lao which is the fastest

5 how long will it take to get the permit

6 should I apply for the permit or just pay the fee to the employer ?

7 how long dose the work permit last for before I will need to renew it ?

I'm sorry I have so many questions but if I don't ask I won't know and you guys know a lot more than me !!

Thanks in advance guys

I hope someone can shed some light on this subject for me please

.1. You apply for it by submitting a WP1 work permit application at the provincial work permit office for where you will be working. Your employer will need to supply most of the documents needed. Once applied for it will not be issued until you get a non-b visa.

2. A one year work permit costs 3000 baht plus a 100 baht filing fee.

3. Yes Cost will be from 300 to 600 baht dependent upon where you do it.

4. see 1

5. It should not take more than a couple of weeks.

6. Let your employer do it and pay the fee.

7. See 2.

Once the work permit is applied for and work permit application approval letter is done by the work permit office you will then need to go out for a non-b visa. Then the work permit will be issued.

Thanks for the quick reply I'm very grateful I'm glad I asked what is the cost of the non imagration visa ?

The fee for a single entry non-b visa is 2000 baht.

After you have the non-b visa, work permit and company documents you will be able to apply for a one year extension of stay if the company and your salary meet the requirements. The fee for it will be 1900 baht,

Ha right thanks would I need to go back to Lao or can I go anywhere for the non immigration visa / or are there some places that won't issue them ?

Just out of curiosity what are the salary requirements of or a year extension.

It varies by country. For most western countries it is 50k baht.

If the salary dose not meet the requirement for a 1 year extension how long will the permit last for will I need to do visa runs every few months to renew it sooty if these are dumb questions I trying to get the facts straight

If you cannot get the extension you would need to go to Penang after you get your work permit to get a multiple entry non-b visa and make border runs every 90 days for a new entry.
