Chum Phon:- The body of the navigator of a South Korean cargoes ship who accidently fell off the ship in Surat Thani last week has been found on a Chum Phon beach, police said.

The body of Jong In Shang, 45, was found at 6:45 pm on Sunday on the Ban Klang Ao beach in Moo 13 village of Tambon Bong Maprao in Chum Phon’s Lang Suan district.

He was wearing a blue mechanic uniform with the company tag of Han Chang Corporation. A Korean brand cigarette pack was found in his shirt pocket. He was about 170 to 175 tall.

The man looked resemble to description of the missing navigator of Woohyun Hope cargoes ship of Woohyn Shipping Co Ltd who went missing on Wednesday after he was hit by a cable before he fell overboard.

Nipon Jinkarn, 55, the representative of the ship filed a complaint with police in Surat Thani that Jong went missing after the accident.

Nipon also confirmed with the Lang Suan police station that the body was Jong.

Following the confirmation, police had government agencies concerned contact Jong’s wife in South Korea to receive the body for funeral service.

Nipon said the accident happened at 1:30 pm Wednesday when the boat was anchored near Koh Pluay in the Ban Don Bay in Surat Thani’s Mueng district. The boat was waiting for the loading of gypsum and other goods for shipping to South Korea.

How far could he have floated from the point where he fell off the ship that nobody could find him for 6 days! Weren't they practicing emergency evacuations with rescue boats? no one bother to lower a boat down and go find him?

And his body should show the mark where the cable hit him.

An anchored vessel has a man overboard incident.....hard to believe the body couldn't be found ..... unless the tidal current is strong....is it?

Full and extensive autopsy called for, I'd say.

An unconcious body doesn't float well.

As Gonsalviz pointed out, "An unconcious body doesn't float well." Unlike what is shown in b grade super sleuth TV shows, an unconscious or dead person doesn't float on the surface of the water. They will sink to the point of their natural neutral buoyancy. This is different for all of us dependent on many factors including bone density, body fat composition and clothing.

So he could have sunk to say, 10 feet or more out of view and drifted away before they were able to launch a rescue.

Bodies don't float television style until they start to decompose and the decomposition gases provide buoyancy and as rotten bits fall off / get eaten making it lighter and altering its buoyancy.

Also, depending on the vessel type, the time it takes to prepare and launch a skiff or other type of boat could up to 5 minutes.

TV CSI and conspiracy theories aside of course.
