Thailand

The Thai Immigration requires all Thai citizens leaving Thailand to have a minimum of THB 20,000 or a credit card with them, failing which the check-in counter will not issue a boarding pass.

Link.

I found this in the Air Asia site.

Has anyone seen this before or experienced difficulties??

It is listed in the travel documents area. I suspect it has more to do with AirAsia than Thai Immigration. Malaysia has a US$ 500 requirement for arriving Thai pax.

Why do they do that ? Been to Malaysia and I was never asked how much I had.

How many times have you been checked entering Thailand? Same law but seldom checked; except by airlines, especially if you are from a developed country and look like you can pay your bills.

Go ahead and make a booking then check the terms and conditions section that comes up.

Coming to Thailand from a 3rd world country will also give you similar treatment.

The first time I arrived here on tourist visa, the immigration officer asked the much expected question.......... "show money". US$500 minimum.

Never been asked that again after I got my non-immigrant 1year visa.

Thank you, Astral. Now I found it, buried deep on their website. Using a text passage from “Travel Requirements” for a Google search I now found this direct link (for anyone interested).

That requirement under point 4.6 is really strange and, as I have learnt from Lopburi’s post, it is not a requirement of Thai Immigration but of Malaysia.
