I use DHL and I've never had a problem doing exactly what you're doing. When the package arrives if you're outside Bangkok they send it on by EMS.

The EMS service around here (Hua Hin) is good and it's never failed me.

I usually get someone to tape the card inside a small book or other semi rigid object and send it as a letter.

I have had a FedEx account for a long time and have packages from the US sent to me c/o their Naklua Road office. They typically used to call me by mid-afternoon to advise and I would go and collect. However, the last couple of packages (in the past 6 months) have ended up staying on the delivery truck and going back to their Laem Chabang facility. The only way I found this out was after checking the tracking number online and seeing a 'delivery exception'. This after NOT getting a call from the girl in the Naklua office. I still haven't managed to get an answer from the girl in the Naklua office regarding why she never calls but the guy at their Laem Chabang depot is excellent (although he had no clue about the girls innaction either). I think she's new (well less than a year) and her English is sh!te.

I use DHL from Europe, c/o their 2nd Road shop and they still always call me.

Just to add, never had problems with either when sending credit/debit cards to Thailand either.

Used FedEx a few times. US to BKK, EU to BKK. Can't complain about their service, but the prices are simply an outrage. I now have all of my packages sent to me via my Dad in Switzerland using Swiss Post.
