earthing system

Featured Replies

i have no clue about electricity (even after reading a lot on the internet),

hopefully someone can give me some direktions!
we are building a one story family house, about 180 m2 :
- 3 phase / 15 (45) amp
- earthing cable 10 mm2 / ø 16 mm 2.40 m earth rod
some question (about earthing system) i would like to know :
- what kind of front end rcd do i need? (63A with 100mA protektion?)
- do i need to have additional earthing for air con / for water heater /
for washing machine / for water pump / for fridge / for oven etc?
- washing machine, fridge, pump etc have only 2 pin plug, what is the solution?
thanks a lot for your help!

Front end RCD is mandatory in Thailand with new installations.

With a 3 phase system I would recommend 100mA Front End. With additional 30mA RCBO protection on your power circuits.

End of the day it is down to cost, but safety is of course paramount.

We are very happy here to help you design.

Of course we will need more info.

thanks for your reply and offer, sounds great!

what kind of information do you need?

My main question is, do you really need 3-phase 15/45 for a 180m2 home? Unless the supply is already installed I would be doing some load calculations.

How many rooms?

List out all your major appliances and post here.

Workshop, outbuildings ??

We can then do a maximum-demand estimate.

Is any wiring already installed? What you already have will steer the direction of any new stuff unless you intend ripping the lot out and starting again.

Those 2-pin plugs you see, are they Schuko plugs like this:-

If so they are actually 3-pin and require a grounded outlet of the correct type (or an adaptor).

EDIT One last point, is this job a 'cost no issue' or a 'lowest cost but safe and legal' job?

ok, here we are with some more information's :

- all eighbour houses (2 or 3 story) have 3 phase. for us 1 phase 45 /100 could be enough,
but we think spending the extra money it will be worth it!
- our house it will be not a luxury project, but for sure it is not a buget house!
- till today nothing is installed, the government electric pole is at our entrance.
- the living area is about 180 m2. the "roof-area" is a over 400 m2, that includes 2 terrasse,
washing room, bike room, storage room with water tanks etc.
- our house has 4 bedrooms, kitchen, dinning room, living room, 2 bathrooms, guest toilett,
storage room, 2 terraces, carport, bike room, tank room ...
- 1 air con 12'000 btu / 3 air con 9'000 btu
- 2 water heater shower about 4'500 - 6'000 watt
- 1 water heater kitchen about 6'000 watt
- 3 water pumps (for use water / drinking water / pond water for gardening)
- 1 oven kitchen / 1 fridge
- about 52 down lights (maybe with led) / about 10 garden lamps / 1 or 2 and some 3 way switch's
- every room has 1 to 3 "double" plugs (total about 80 plugs)
- the plug from our fridge and washing machine unfortunately is only a 2 pin!

sorry, but our house looks like to be quite challenging. i appreciate already, if some can give me some
direktions. our electric company has done 3 phase installation already, but i prefer to have done it with
following the "western standard".

thank you very much for all your effort!!

If it's got a metal case then it probably needs a ground. Have a look on the back, if there's a screw with the earth symbol on it, connect that to the earth pin on your outlet or another ground source.

Symbol looks like this:-
