BANGKOK: -- A hoax bomb, found at the mouth of Soi Pattanakorn 65 in Bangkok's Prawet district yesterday morning, was traced back to a shop in Samrongtai area of Samut Prakan province, Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) commissioner Pol Lt-General Sriwara Rangsipramanakul said.

The item - made of seven cores of tissue rolls and other items to look like an explosive - was apparently sold at the shop at Bt800 a piece, he said, adding that police would file charges of having an imitation firearm in possession and using it to scare the public. Police are also looking up laws to see if charges can be filed against people who make such items for sale, he said.

Following the 10.30am discovery of the item, police and explosives ordnance disposal officers sealed off a 100-metre radius while inspecting it. An hour later, police deemed it a hoax and seized it as evidence to proceed with legal action. Police are also checking security cameras in the area to identify the wrongdoer, whose motive is suspected to be to create public disturbance and chaos.

Creating chaos Ok understand that's RTP's job.

Now that Prayut has moved to full imposition of Article 44, people need to think twice about where they TP.

Not sure what the problem is.... the concept of OTOP is well established in Thailand, and a pillar of the Thai economy.

I can see a possible problem during the baggage x-ray taking this souvenir of Thainess back home after a holiday.

After EOD got there it took them an hour to figure it was a hoax???? That long????

You have to hand it to BKK entrepreneurs. He recognised that with so many fake redshirts around there has to be a demand for fake bombs. And not only are the fake bombs cheaper while still giving 90% of the effect, when you are (inevitably, now) caught, your jail time will be much less.

Quite possibly it took that long for the bomb squad to get there through BKK traffic. Despite the reporting, what are the chances they were there when it was discovered?

What gave the shop away ?

Was it the ' Bombs R Us ' sign ?
