tongbo
Hello Folks, I have a 2008 Yamaha Fino with no service manual (for DIY) Anyone with a user manual or know the capacity of Gear Oil required for the fino? (500ml or ??) Can't find any info online at all. Manage to download a few parts manaul that is of no help. Appreciate ur advice. Thanks!
Dutchbike
I would guess, 800ml If your bike has a dipstick, it easy to check when filling up, park the bike on a leveled surface and just give the oil some time to settle. .
papa al
Dutch, bike is CVT. He's referring to the final gears at rear axel. Right OP? 500ml not right. Way less, like 100ml. Yamalube gear oil, not motor oil, same papa's Nouvo. Just ask at or take it to any one of the ubiquitous bike shops near you. Should be changed at break-in for metallic residue then good for 40-50,000 km. Not exposed to engine temps so no break down.

Brit_Doggie
Engine Oil is 900ml (but you can just dump the whole bottle in), i’d recommend to change every 3000-5000km or 3mths, whichever earlier. Though i know it could last much longer, but no harm changing it more often. Gear Oil – 500ml. Every 6000km or every alternate EO change should do, but then again, it’s cheap to change that. Page 7-4 in the Nouvo SX manual calls for replacement of final transmission oil @ 1000km thence @ 12,000km intervals, but then again it's cheap so might as well change it every week or so. OP: English PDF version of Fino book is likely available online.

The engine oil mainly wears down due to slight blow-by from the piston rings thus polluting the oil. In almost all combustion engines, the oil turns black quickly but can still be okay for a long time after that point. The crankcase will also collect moist which again lower the lub oils lube quality's. Yes gear oils don't get polluted like that but still a good idea to change it now and again.
papa al
Guzzle, thanks for that. Blow-by. Synthetic seems way better at resisting this type pollution. Why?
wantan
Thanks for correcting me papa. then he should use this one: gear oil.png The bottles i bought always looked like this: And usually you need one or two bottles (100-200ml). Quantity should be stated on the gear box near the filler cap. At least it was on both of my Yamaha Nouovo. http://www.thaimotorcycleparts.com/index.aspx?ProductID=Product-100205153162910
papa al
Wantan: Thanks for that. I infer you choose drive Nouvo & CBR150, as papa does. You clever guy. 5 5 I saved that handy little bottle and refilled for oiling my chains &c.
