Minor criminal conviction traveling to Thailand issue?

Featured Replies

Skatewash is 100% correct, however I'll add this.

You actually do not need any visa to enter Thailand and retire. You can come on a 30 day exemption, apply for a change of visa for the purpose of retirement and then get retirement extension, all you need is to be over 50 and be able to show sufficient income/capital to finance your stay.

At no point is the question of criminal past ever asked, so no lies are required.

The above also dispels the stories then that the officer can see your criminal conviction pop up on screen via your passport scan .

OP you have nothing to worry about.

I have a conviction in a Thai court, passed through immigration at Bangkok airport no problems what so ever.

I have a old criminal conviction dating back to 1999 which resulted in more than a fine if you know what I mean biggrin.png

I had no problem entering on the 20 or so times I came here on Holiday or the past 9 years I have lived here

You have nothing to worry about OP but I do wonder why after 5 years of visiting you suddenly found the need to call the Thai Consulate to ask about your conviction?

after 5- 10 years, wouldnt that be wiped off your criminal record anyway?? i know after doing time at her majestys pleasure, mine was off my record after 5 years for a not TOO serious offence

I've been following the forum for about 6 months, lurking and trying to figure out the visa process, which to select and how to proceed. After all the research I knew about the "O" visa option that Skatewash mentioned but I guess I was so heavily invested in pursuit of the "O-A", I forgot about that option.

I don't know who you are or where you are but I'm grateful for all the help that has been offered here. Perhaps I can buy you guys a beer someday.
