Health department gives heatstroke warning

Bangkok: With Mercury soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of Thailand now, the Health Department warns people to beware of heatstroke risks.


“Common symptoms are headache, nausea and dehydration. But in severe forms, it can cause delirium, coma and even deaths,” Health Department’s director general Dr Pornthep Siriwanarangsan says via ASTV Manager.

Thai leaders send condolences to Malaysia over helicopter crash

BANGKOK, 6 April 2015 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has sent a letter expressing his profound condolences and sympathy to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak over the great loss of Najib Razak’s principal private secretary and a senior member of his party in the tragic helicopter crash on Saturday.


Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has also written to his Malaysian counterpart to convey his condolences over the great loss of the families of the deceased.

The tragic incident happened in Kampung Pasir Baru, Semenyih in the south of Kuala Lumpur on 4 April 2015. Six people were killed, including the two important members of the Malaysian Government.

The first one was Datuk Seri Azlin Alias, the Chief Private Secretary, and the second one was Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis, who previously served as a former Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Ambassador of Malaysia to the United States.

Gen Tanasak to visit the Philippines from 6-7 Apr

PHILIPPINES, 6 April 2015 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister General Thanasak Patimaprakorn is on an official visit to the Republic of the Philippines between April 6 and 7 following an invitation of his Philippine counterpart.


During his two-day visit, he is scheduled to have a meeting with Albert F. del Rosario, the Philippine foreign minister, to discuss and exchange views related to regional issues, such as the ASEAN Community and territorial disputes in the South China Sea. He is to attend a luncheon held later in his honor by his Philippine counterpart.

Gen Tanasak will also attend the wreath laying ceremony to honor Dr.Jose Rizal, the greatest hero of the Philippine, who helped end Spain’s rule over the country. The ceremony is the Philippine government tradition when having a high-profile visit by foreign dignitaries. Both Thai and Philippine foreign ministers will also co-provide the information on the result of the visit.

Moreover, Gen Tanasak’s visit aims to drive forward the strategic partnership between Thailand and the Philippines by retrieving their bilateral mechanisms including the meeting of Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), which is to be hosted by Thailand. and two other meetings - Joint Trade Commission (JTC) and Joint Committee of Defense Cooperation (JCDC) - both of which will be hosted by the Philippines.

"Chiangmai Big Cleaning day” kicked off on Chakri Memorial Day

CHIANG MAI, 6 April 2015 (NNT) - Provincial authorities of Chiang Mai, private sector representatives and local residents are today joining in "Chiangmai Big Cleaning day” activities to prepare the city for the Songkran celebrations next week.


The cleaning activities cover four main zones of the province: Tha Phae Gate, the Chiang Mai Gate, Suan Dok Gate and the Chang Pueak Gate, located both inside and outside Chiang Mai Moat.

The campaign is held in conjunction with several occasions including the Chakri Memorial Day and the 5th cycle birthday anniversary of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 2nd April 2015.

Moreover, the preparation of the city is to welcome tourists coming to the province during the Songkran Festival and also for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Chiang Mai next year. Significantly, the cleaning can mitigate the haze situation in the province.

Livestock officers check reports of elephant abuse on Phuket

PHUKET: Phuket has the highest number of working elephants of all the provinces in Thailand, a meeting of the Elephant Committee, chaired by Vice-Governor Panlop Singhasanee, was told on Friday (April 3).
