DOEB to increase palm oil in bio-diesel from 3.5% to 7%

BANGKOK, 10 April 2015, (NNT) - The Department of Energy Business (DOEB) is increasing the ratio of palm oil in bio-diesel from 3.5% to 7% beginning on April 16th .

Director-General of the DOEB Witoon Kulcharoenwirat said the move would help absorb the oversupply of palm oil in the market, in accordance with the subcommittee for oil palm and palm oil management's decision, which is expected to lower the national crude palm oil stock to 170,000 tons.

By increasing the ratio of palm oil from 3.5% to 7%, changing the bio-diesel formula from B3 to B7, the consumption of palm oil would increase by 70,000 tons a month.

According to the Director-General, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand has been asked to use more palm oil in producing electricity in its power plant in Krabi. Furthermore, the department has also urged the private sector to purchase raw palm oil at least at the current price tag.

Farmers, meanwhile, have been asked to refrain from harvesting their palm fruit prematurely.

This may help to keep the cost of palm oil at or above Tue current prices that they claimed were lower in a related article this morning

Thailand produces a very small percentage of the world's total production. Thailand alone can't affect the world price. This reminds me of the rice scheme where Thais were asked to eat Thai rice.

If they can burn the surplus and not stockpile it again it might help only reduce the stockpiles. It won't affect the price.

World Production.

So what gas stations are selling bio diesel? Have not seen B5 for sell for about 5 years.

Well done in finding a solution to reduce the existing stock of palm oil.

Good idea to increase the ratio of palm oil, provided there is no corresponding adverse environmental issue.

Well hopefully the increase will not screw up your motor. Did anyone check into that ?

At Isuzu , they told me never to use B5 , so now B7 crap ? Just now that diesel (should be 50 % ) is cheaper?

Great , then another 1400 B to change that valve again , well 5-6 years ago , so now with inflation + higher wages 2000 B ?

Maybe the special expensive Shell diesel will stay the same ?

Palmoil is crap , not just for food but for older cars too.

This is not entirely true. Environmental issues arise from the massive destruction of natural habitats, clear felling jungle to plant vast palm plantations.

First time I motorbiked around Trang & Krabi in 1998, it was all forest.

Last time I went there , palmoil & (butt ugly) rubbertrees everywhere. Even on steep hill sides . And a lot of new vigo pickups with red plates driving like they own the place....and they probably do.
