Peace TV and 24TV shut down for seven days by NBTC



BANGKOK: -- Two satellite television stations connected with members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship were ordered closed for seven days by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.

NBTC secretary-general Thakorn Tanthasit said that contents of the Khaojai Trong Kanna programme of Peace TV and Awakened, News Room and the Clear programmes of 24TV tend to cause public confusion, incite conflicts and cause divisiveness in the country constituting violations of Order 97/2557 of the National Council for Peace and Order.

Peace TV was blacked out as of April and continues until April 16 while 24TV was off the air on April 11 until April 17.

What is the point of shutting them down for only a week. These stations should be shut permanently or not at all. They mostly just feed redshirt propaganda anyway and distill dissent amongst the peasants.

So much for press and media freedom. I wish we could shut down all yellow shirt channels but, that wont ever happen. I wish we didn't have to ever see the junta's spokes boy and his childish mannerisms and equally idotic statements.

Please use discretion in your references to the government. Phrases which can be considered as anti-coup will be removed. Referring to Thailand or the government as a dictatorship, military dictatorship or other such terms will be removed.

I think the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission should look at the Nation Newspaper and close them down. Only God knows how and why that newspaper is still allowed to operate. It's suppose to be against the rules to say negative stuff about the present government, but all of us on ThaiVisa know that they've been printing lots of negative stuff.

Why are they still operating ??

Well said! Personally I think Jatuporn and at times Nattawut are very nice when having a shoutcast on 'PeaceTV'. Must be a year or more ago last I watched them, but they always came with real interesting views and as you know the value of and the truth level in information is directly related to the voice level of the speaker

yeah, and then there's Fox News, I'd really like to see them off the air forever.... but wait, that won't happen because of a thing called "free speech" which is a bedrock human right and a necessary part of an open society...
