A friend of mine is visiting from the UK next week. He "smokes" e-cigarettes which I've read are banned in Thailand. However, I have seen people "smoking" them here and I'm wondering how the law is being interpreted.

For example is it illegal to sell or to buy them here ?

Is it illegal to "smoke" them here if brought in from outside Thailand for personal use only ?

Personal experience or intimate knowledge of the subject really appreciated.

this has been discussed in another thread i think the general consensus arrived at was yes there was some talk about them being banned in Thailand but i rather think this was some sort of challenge the tobacco monopolies came up with as to what they saw as a threat to their products also posted they are still openly offered for sale in many of the larger resorts so at the end of the day no real conclusion to your enquiry

i have been using one now for a couple of years and have not encountered any problems with purchasing any e cig related products

in LOS or online sales from china time will tell but for now all clear of any true prohibition the air lines have their own sets of rules about the carriage of batteries not to sure about that

According to one news article, (source cannot be named here due to this publications restrictions)

"The devices are banned with immediate effect and those who break the law are subject to a maximum of 10-years imprisonment or a fine equivalent to five times the price of imported or exported goods seized"

Just Google "e-cigarettes banned in Thailand" and you will find it.

3) You will not post about activities or links to websites containing such material that are illegal in Thailand. This includes but is not limited to: gambling, betting, pornography, illegal drugs, fake goods/clothing, file sharing of pirated material, pyramid schemes, etc. Discussion of the above is permitted only as news items, but never as a "how to" topic.
