Attacked by ladyboys..what would you do?

One of the many scams the ladyboys are doing is to start a fight with any random tourist, then when the police get there, the ladyboy will demand say 500 baht on the spot, or insist on going to the police station and spend all day there sorting the mess.

The ladyboys know that most tourists do not want to spend all day at the police station, especially as the tourists do not know what is going to happen or what the risks are, so the will likely just hand over the 500 baht, and move on.

The police are of course useless as usual and do not inform the tourists that they are being cheated.

As I have said before, the ladyboys have no legitimate business in those areas, they are a bunch of criminals and should be banned/removed permanently by the police.

Many lady boys work very close to Beach road. Do you want the names of the businesses?

Defending in Public is punishable... ONLY in Thailand? A few years back in Munich Germany, a man died, because he defended a young man who was beaten up by a group. They kicked him to death. Later he was declared a hero. If he would have survived, he would have been fined for kicking this gang.

In the Netherlands you can go to prison or be fined if you slap a burglar in your own house. HE can accuse you of violence!!!

This is the world we live in.

I'm happy to pay only 500 baht, if that would be the price for defending myself or another....

Walking on Beach road at the height of Songkran in Pattaya. That's not just a little bit dumb; it's major league nuts. The couple has lived in Pattaya for three years I think the story said so they knew what they were getting into.

I wear goggles, 5 year old shorts, a torn shirt leave my wallet home and my cell phone is waterpoof.

Has anyone, noticed, that she is a cartoon?cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Please get real......

The post was about my attire for Songkran which is real. Perhaps you should read before you comment?

I believe most of them "work" directly ON beach road.

Lady boy bars close to beach road are located in Walking street, soi VC, Soi 13/1, Soi 13/3 just to name a few.

Isn't there a law about impersonating a female to lure in victims?

I think ladyboys are protected by law in most civilized countries. In Thailand they are doctors, nurses and airline stewardesses not to mention entertainers. You might want to check out Miss International Queen at

Tiffany's.

1) police do allow for self defence

2) however, any case of someone slapping or hitting someone does indeed incur a 500 baht fine

3) I personally do not believe this story as it is told

I hope I got this wrong.

I am extremely satisfied to hear that the Thai-Police allows for self defense. BUT: A person acting in self-defence and inevitably slapping and hitting the aggressor will be fined 500 Bht?

If correct, can anyone name an other country on this globe, that would allow for such utter absurdity ?

If correct, the usual "This is Thailand" Mantra will not suffice anymore.

Cheers

Thai Cops have no record of the incident. The couple claim to have lived in Thailand 3 years and yet walked on Beach road at the height of Songkran. The case was handled by a British Police volunteer.

Funny how much information one can get with google when the intent is not just to bash Thailand.

Are you suggesting a British wannabee Thai policeman handled this case, "fined" them 500 ThB and then failed to file a report?

Surely not whistling.gif

Sounds a tad strange - experienced couple living here 3 years walking through the Songkran festivities and then getting involved in a fight with ladyboys.

Foreign Police Volunteers do not "handle" cases but may be a bridge in language and/or procedure terms between Thai officers and foreigners within the station.

As earlier suggested, miscommunication seems to have led to misunderstanding by the foreigners on what was said and thus their story afterwards.

As also mentioned earlier, both parties would be considered in the wrong so any fine was valid but again not given by anyone but a Thai officer.

I used to read of lots of cases in the UK where burglars, muggers, pickpockets etc would always claim assault and file charges if their intended victim clocked them and they were caught. It got so you were frightened to protect yourself. Changed eventually as more courts got real, but you still have to use reasonable force.

I think the logic, if it is logic here, is that if both parties are fined for hitting the other, it will prevent both from doing so. Nice idea - but doesn't seem to be working. Wonder why? rolleyes.gif

I've lived in Bangkok for 5 years, I've met a million ladyboys, and a million other kinds of people, and I've never been attacked or had serious trouble. Even late at nights or in crazy (dodgey) areas. There's always an exception (had a real trouble in Tel Aviv once). But, after growing up in NYC, and then living all over the world, there are certain things I've learned are obvious.

SOMEONE is going to be attacked, on any given night in a place like Bangkok or Pattaya. But if you follow these 4 simple advices, you decrease the chances that it will be you by at least 99%.

1) Whatever your moralisitc judgements of people are, from back home - get over them, FAST. You are half-way around the world, and it was YOUR choice to come to Thailand. People can sense these things in you, also. If you come to Thailand with an attitude that ladyboys are disgusting, or that poor people are disgusting, or that (anything) is disgusting...then you have just painted a big target on yourself for trouble.

2) SMILE! And show kindness in your eyes. And when that doesn't work, SMILE, and show kindness in your eyes. If the situation has already gotten really bad, try SMILING, and showing kindness in your eyes. The more sincerely you mean it, the more it will work. That's what you do, while you LEAVE as fast as possible, I'll add. But as you are getting the <deleted> out of there, SMILE, and show real kindness in your eyes. It really works, guys.

3) NEVER try to show how 'macho' you are. it's a different culture, and 'macho' does NOT work. Macho is considered a weakness in Thailand, actually. Puffing up your chest, or raising your voice, etc - No. You are begging to be put down, if you take that approach.

4) When in doubt, repeat 1-4.

My advice to any expat who doesn't like Songkran buy plenty of provisions beforehand and barricade yourself indoors until it's all over.

Either that or go on holiday to somewhere that doesn't celebrate it.

Live in the country live with its customs.

Silly.

Just because you are half way around the world you don't have to abandon common sense or respect these beach road female impersonators luring in tourists, then robbing, assaulting, drugging and defrauding them.

Use your head. What they are up too is not acceptable.

I does not matter how long you have lived in Thailand. Sonkran is not about DISRESPECT. Originally it was all about RESPECT. For some idiots here it means (If you don't want to get wet don't go on the street) So, if I want to take my wife to a nice restaurant for dinner in celebration of Songran ... well then ... even though I dress for the occasion you think I should expect to arrive at the restaurant wet with wet powder on my face and clothes? Learning to respect others is desperately needed among Thais and foreigners during Songkran.

Reasonable force to me is if you are attacked without provocation, and you put him down, you do whatever it takes to make sure he stays down,

even if it means kicking him while he is on the ground, and to hell with any rules that say you should not. Your safety and well being come first.

The best way to deal with LBs is to tell them "You are beautiful, but I like women". Diplomacy averts conflict.

As to the incident in question - they are a couple of whining babies who can not accept SK for what it is.

It would be my luck for a noisy Harley to go past just as I utter the words "... but I like women."

That's one of the reasons I ride my noisy Harley. I park it outside the bars I frequent and ride past the riff-raff.

One of the nice parts about being old is carrying a cane. 1. I hit the dog with my cane. 2. I hit the dog with a tire iron, log, baseball bat. See the difference. I defended myself with my cane and I'll walk. I punched the ladyboy and hit him with a log and I'll pay the fine.

Of course they are people.

We are discussing people with a penis, dressed up like a girl to get close to their victims and what should you do if attacked.

It isnt what can and does happen that is the issue here, at least not directly. The thing is to see what potential problem are including mugging etc and take steps to make sure you dont fall victim.

Trying to be a smartie is not going to work. You are on their turf and have to accept that like it or not. Never mind the arguments "it is different back home" it may well be but you are not back home.

Fit into the system and you wont have a problem. Square pegs in round holes never last long

I think the poster above thinks all lady boys are looking for victims or at least that was his assumption when he wrote, "Isn't there a law about impersonating a female to lure in victims." A lot of people living outside Thailand have no idea how much lady boys are integrated into Thai society in every profession including Muay Thai boxers.
