ask where the 37.3 million came from in 2009 declaration on his civil servent pay. then follow the paper trail as to funds transfered, laundered since that time.these people have stolen so much that they cannot find any way or place to conceal amounts they could not earn legally in 10 lifetimes working as government employee. it will be shocking when they find the huge amounts already hidden via illigal transactions.

if they want to raise real vast amounts of unexplained assets they need to take a hard look at ''plod'' another thaksin bag man. theguilty ones got so much they cannot even hide what they have not been able to launder,. spend, bury, or in some cases, burn. a disgrace to the nation and thai s who participated/condoned this behavior.

I doubt anyone has ever claimed Thaksin was the first, and I have never seen any evidence that he hasn't been the worst, and you claim we will never see evidence but the best you can point to is a 25 year-old instance of a man long dead.

Suggest you get more facts, nobody is suggesting that thaksin was the first or the only corrupt person / pm in Thailand, but there is a case to say he took it to new levels and very open.

One simple case still waiting to proceed in the courts, he visited Myanmar and convinced the generals to buy tens of millions of dollars worth of satellite etc., equipment from his company then came back to Bkk and ordered a govt. controlled bank to lend them the money to buy the equipment, all open and reported in the media. And many more cases still waiting to proceed.

Corruption is not the only item on the minds of many folks who have been watching thaksin for a long time, and if we want to quote numbers I've worked here for over 35 years.

Thaksin made numerous public statements: democracy is not my goal, democracy is not important for Thailand, and he muzzled / intimidated the press, pressed charges against any reporters who dared to write anything looking negative against him. After the coup he then made many protestations about democracy being stolen from him and in recent times his fake pm sister also overseeing a gov't making quite some progress at building an obvious dictatorship and all the while she was making statements about democracy: I have to stay to protect democracy, and the farce / the highly embarrassing speech she made in a central Asian country which is a solid dictatorship, about protecting democracy in Thailand. She was lucky they didn't frog march her to the airport.

His personal war on drugs (yeah I know nobody has ever been prosecuted etc.), hardly the actions of balanced logical person, and there's also the irony of him protesting to one and all about the military coup which deosed him in 2006.

But not all that well known is that near the end of the reign of the dictator pm gen. suchinda one of the other nasty generals sunthorn handed the paymaster a telecoms license.

All at a time when it was solid state policy / law that all telecoms has to remain in the total control of the state. He charged outrageous fees to customers and made a fortune.

Read a few more 'thaksin hater' posts and you'll find plenty of observers, me included, who have said many many times that all corrupt people should be punished regardless of their background or affiliations..

This is very positive news, especially as it will send the message to all levels of society, that if the hammer can fall on the top guys it can most certainly fall on anyone, all the way down to the street-level corruption and scams, which may yield smaller profits but are ultimately just as corrosive to society as the actions of the grand Larcenistas at the top.

With any luck there are many youngsters today that will see these news stories, about the powerful top crooks being treated like the common villains they are, and hopefully this formative experience will raise future generations who don't see any reason look up to or emulate hiso crooks.

The OP mentions "evidence suggesting that Mr. Tharit’s assets relating to his unusual wealth had been transferred, transformed or hidden". I guess that means the 40 million temporarily seized is the part not 'transferred, transformed or hidden'. It would seem the four rai Khao Yai plot with more than 10 million Baht "House and eight-unit homestay" (also sometimes described as luxury villa with seven structures) is not included in the seizes assets.

Interesting is that of 40.9 million temporarily seized, 1.2 million belongs to Tarit and 39.7 million to his wife. No info how the 37.3 million declared in 2009 were divided between him and his wife?

BTW the Nation article has

This suggest Tarit made an asset declaration in 2014. Any further info on that?

PS I guess in 2009 the NACC didn't see anything suspicious because at that time there wasn't anything suspicious.
