Local police are searching for the cause of a string of mysterious fires that have plagued a home in the Tamot district of Phatthalung. Since last month, 150 fires have been reported in the home.

Officials accompanied Winai Buapradit, Phatthalung governor, on a visit to the Tamot home on Wednesday to investigate the cause of the fire. During the investigation, a wardrobe caught fire in one of the bedrooms. The family quickly put out the fire before it could do any major damage.

Lom Sakwan, 63, said he and his family had been living in the home for about eight years. The first fire broke out on March 17 and destroyed a makeshift shelter outside of the home. Since that day, 150 fires have broken out in the home. Naturally, the family is frightened and spooked.

Mr. Lom consulted with local sorcerers to try and find a cause of the fires. Some predicted that as many as 300 fires would break out.

After officials investigated the home, Mr. Winai stated that he would work with relevant agencies to further inspect the home and find the root cause of the fires.

Mr. Lom insists on remaining in the home, despite the fire outbreaks. If no cause can be found, Mr. Winai will consult with the Red Cross office to have a new home built for Mr. Lom if the family consents.

Given the state of electrical wiring in most Thai homes I'd look for an electrician first before consulting the local sorcerer.
