Sawan Chan 7
Im going to be painting by bumpers black. I have bought the sprays. I'm confused as when to do the sanding. I plan to do 3 coats of laquer paint then a couple of clear coats. Am I right in thinking that sanding to 1200 grit will be shiny enough? Then I put on the clear coat. Do I sand with anything after the clear coat? Do I wax after or before the clear coat?
NanLaew
Is it a steel bumper or a composite (plastic) one?
Brit_Doggie
Wax after clear coat not sand either.
sotsira
You only need to sand with wet & dry 1200 using soapy water to remove any dust spots, blemishes or runs in-between the base colour coats allowing 45mins minimum for the paint to fully dry. Once the last base coat is touch dry and your happy with the finish you can apply the clear coats again allowing minimum 45mins between coats. After the last clear coat you can leave it to dry for longer to allow the lacquer to harden, then rub down using 12-1500 grade wet&dry with soapy water (dishwasher liquid is common to use) Lastly, buff with a polishing compound and then wax. Sawan Chan 7
Thanks. It's a plasric bumper. I nevr knew to leave it as long as 45 min after each coat. it seems hard after 10 min But thanjs for the tip.
