Evening buffet Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. 250 baht, don't know how he makes a profit. Cold entrees, hot dishes and desserts such as Apfelstrudel. Bring an empty stomach. OK, not Thai - who cares? Johpa Posted April 24, 2015 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Drive up to Eagle Track Zipline in Tambon Mae Raem, Amphoe Mae Rim. You get a free, but limited, buffet lunch included in the price. There is a nice scenic waterfall at the zipline to spend some time relaxing or reading a book. You can stop on the way up at the above mentioned Dara Phirom museum in Mae Rim which is indeed a really nice museum documenting a lost era of early 20th century royal living Lanna style. Or you can head up from the zip line to the multitudes of the Mon Doi camp and view sites around the Mong village of Nong Hoi at the top of the mountain such as Mon Cheam. Drive down the backside of the mountain to Pong Yang and then you can stop at the Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens driving back into town as well. Something for everyone. It looks like a museum on the outside. Big White building sorry I can not be more precise with the location. It has some fantastic opportunities for pictures with you being a part of it and looking perfectly natural. I would recommend a group of three some need two people in them and one on the camera. Fantastic gardens full of palms from all over the world, orchids and bromeliads. You can hand-feed ostriches, and see deer and exotic wild cattle. Peacocks! It has a labyrinth, and a very nice swimming pool. There is a museum with old photos of Chiang Mai and antique tools and pottery. Buffet on weekends. How do you get there? There is a nice trail-head at the channel 7 TV tower, which can be accesssed from Suthep, by car or about a 30 minute walk from CMU back gate (engineering school). Another 30 minutes puts you at a nice waterfall. Perhaps, a famous "soapy massage" on the way home, also close to Suthep. How do you get there? Lots of options but not easy to describe unless you are familiar with the area. Try going into the Forestry HQ a km after the temple on Doi Suthep. Look out for a small sign going into the woods on the right for a short walk to a massive strangler fig tree which is hollow as it as completely destroyed the old host tree - nice spot. Stay on that walking trail and it will lead you down to a small waterfall (25 mins?) and eventually down to Monthatarn bigger falls below (50 mins?) Go down to the commercial hill tribe village, Doi Pui, and out the back onto the rough road above the (man-made!) waterfall. After about a km there is a walking trail that goes off and up to the right. Follow that for about 1 and a half hours and take the trail to the right that goes up to the top of the saddle back ridge and sit and contemplate the great views north and south sitting on Drum Rock next to what's known as Buddha's footprint (sign only in Thai). As I said this assumes some knowledge of the area and if you are just passing through then all this will not make much sense! Either way, hope you find some tasty spots. Mae Gnat resevoir 20Km past Mae Rim take the longtail boat to Eckachi floating resort for lunch, 500bht for the boat added to your meal bill, seats about 8 people. Swim and Kayak, stay in the floating guest house overnight if you like (a bit basic but fun) Mon Jairm/Mon lawng lookout points, Way out along the road of Mae Rim past all the tourist attractions, then turn right up the hill before the next big temple Ob Khan National park, Along canal road past hang dong, then turn right following the park signs. Swim in the river or walk along the deep river canyon, sit and picnic on the sandy beaches. The Canyon, Also just off the canal road past hang dong, follow the signs after canal road narrows. May be closed because people keep droning themselves there. Doi Ang Khang botanical gardens, Just beyond Chang Dao, huge gardens covering the mountain top. Very pretty. Sala Cafe Behind Mae Rim, very pretty gardens, very popular with BK Thais, reasonable prices, spectacular setting. The Buffalo Market, 8am-12:00 Every Saturday at San Patong, the biggest open air market you have ever seen Past the airport to Hang Dong then out to just past San Patong. To the OP, Opkhan national park is another nice place, with lots of water and a walking trail along cliffs. This place is relatively close to the city, on the south-west side.
