Retiree, 65, gives himself up to fight kidnap charges

BANGKOK: -- A RETIRED provincial chief of the Teachers' Welfare Office in Samut Sakhon province yesterday gave himself up to local police to fight charges that he abducted the chairman of a football club and extorted Bt177 million from him.

Bunsong Sukkhothai, 65, denied the charges and told reporters that he travelled alone to meet with Samrit Bunditkrissada, chairman of the Police's Friends Football Club, on April 7.

Pol Colonel Nos Sawettalek, a Crime Suppression Division commander, said the police had detained Bunsong and filed abduction and extortion charges against him at the Criminal Court. Nos said CSD's counter-corruption subdivision would not handle a counter-claim of support of corruption filed by Bunsong against Samrit, saying it was a different case. He did not elaborate.

Referring to news reports that stated Samrit initiated a meeting with Bunsong, which took place in January before Samrit filed the complaint with the CSD, the officer said that evidence and testimony during the trial would determine who was telling the truth.

Samrit accused Bunsong and eight other people of abducting him to Phetchaburi province on January 12 and demanding he hand over Bt177 million. Samrit reportedly initiated a solar-cell project with a Phetchaburi-based company and the teachers' welfare office under Bunsong's supervision later joined the investment, offering Bt2.1 billion.

Call him Robin Hood ....

Legend says Robin Hood robbed the rich and gave to the poor.

Thai Robins' rob anyone and keep it, well ok some for family and friends, gf's and mia nois.

Kidnapping the chairman of the police friends football club?

Probably not the best target, all things considered.

... Samrit reportedly initiated a solar-cell project with a Phetchaburi-based company and the teachers' welfare office under Bunsong's supervision later joined the investment, offering Bt2.1 billion.

What on earth is a Teachers' Welfare Office and how come it has 2.1 billion baht lying about for the 'retired provincial chief' thereof to 'invest' as he sees fit?

Police's Friends Football Club, 177M baht. All good and steady in the Kingdom.
