Visa Rules Settled Down (for the meantime) ?

Recommended Posts

There have been no changes to the rules for visas for a long time. Not sure when the last change was done.

The did put restrictions on doing back to back visa exempt entries.

There were some changes made to the police order for extension of stay that went into effect on the 29th of August of last year which was the first change in almost 6 years.

Well BTB as well as ed visa changes (people having their study time retroactively sliced in half) were a big shake-up for those under 50 staying here longer term and not wanting to pay up for the 500,000 5-year visa. BTB being about the worst route to go anyway... !

Those are changes to the rules for extensions of stay and the Ministry of Education's requirements that have nothing to do with getting a visa.

Does this country have the most frequent rule changes for visa requirements in the world ?

No, just the most frequent claims of visa rule changes made by confused posters who never understood the rules in the first place (and were abusing the system, which resulted in stricter enforcement of immigration policies) and those who are unable to distinguish between extensions of stay & visas.

There do seem to have been a number of changes to visa exempt entries, both in theory and practice.

Honorary consulates are now much more constrained in the visas that they are allowed to issue.

While not exactly new, the different embassies/consulates have varying rules about which visas they will issue and under what conditions. In many cases, embassies/consulates change their rules without prior notice.

While the letter of the visa regulations may not have changed in several years, it is not surprising that the perception of frequent and arbitrary changes exists.

Wasn't the rule only allowing 15 days on a border entry modified allowing 30 days for certain nationalities?

Kurt

Those from the G7 countries have been able to get 30 day entries at border crossing since November of 2013.

Let me phrase this in a favorable light ;

A new VIP service was introduced for ED visa extension; For only 5K, you don't have to go class or learn Thai or queue at immigration anymore. Isn't that great ??? w00t.gif
