i have 3BB 12MB DSL now and wonder about upgrading to fiber. will it be faster, and more importantly, more reliable?

i can't make good skype calls with my DSL usually

I upgraded to 30Meg fiber at all our properties about 18 months ago when 3BB fiber became available. But I still kept all the 12Meg DSL as back-up. Fiber has been very reliable, speed alamost the full 30 using a LAN port. The wireless router offered by 3BB has poor speed. I bought an access point wireless unit plugged into the 3BB router LAN, that gives much better wireless speed.

My 12Meg systems have also been trouble free and do deliver the full 12Meg through the LAN port. Wireless less depends on distance from wifi .

I really have no complaints with any system offered by 3BB

I also have 3BB viber and i'm very happy with it. (much more stable then the old ADSL)

But i lost connection now for 3 days. Will have to call tomorrow as i suspect that the line is broken somewhere.

You have not callied 1530 helpline yet after 3 days ? I call within the first hour. Looking at your 33BB fiber router if the second light from the left is red (should be green) then you have a line or system fault. 3BB are usually on system faults very quickly, within 12 hours. If line break then you need to call them. A downside of the fiber network is that they do not have enough fiber trained engineers to fix a line break. On reporting a fault an engeer will be there in less than 24 hours (often same day) but if he diagnose as a line break then he has to call in an installation team, that can take 3 days. We have had 2 line breaks over 18 months.

Did not see a great speed increase (especially on international bandwidth) when moving to Fiber, but stability is far, far better.

I have a 12MB DSL 3BB Line and it's good but all depending where you are in the Country. Krabi Node is good but my Friend who is on TOT Fibre really does not see a significant advantage except that the TOT DSL line he had previously was so poor.

Fibre is most beneficial for accessing sites within Thailand including cached (mirror) ones like Google. Thailand's problem is a lack of bandwidth at the International gateway so performance is very limited accessing foreign sites irrespective of whether your local connection is DSL or Fibre. Internet Providers can be very crafty too by employing "Line Management" to multiplex fibre. Simply this means that your connection may not be as exclusive as you might imagine. If you have a modem rather than what the Provider gives you they may find that not so easy to do. Several Modem/Routers around these day can work with DSL and Fibre, so consider buying from elsewhere.

Good question! I've been thinking about going this as well.

We have the 3BB 15/1 ADSL and for another 300THB/month it seems a bargain to go for the 30/3 fibre.

It's definitely on my list of things to do. Everything I've read and heard talks about better stability and speeds. The ADSL in Rawai (I don't know where the exchange is, nor the contention ratio) seems reliable, service-wise but quite variable speed-wise.

Please report back and tell us how it goes for you. I'm still a couple of months away from applying.

Only 300 baht a month more? Are you sure? I thought the low initial price was a special offer and that it would double in price after the first year.

Please tell me I'm wrong!! biggrin.png

PS. My mate was getting 66 Mbps when it first came out...

I pay 900 baht + tax for 13 meg dsl, and 1,200 baht + tax for the 30 meg fiber = 300 baht extra. No change after 17 months now paying for fiber.

Booking my visit to 3BB tomorrow...

I've got the same 900 baht +7% deal too. The modem connects at 17918 down / 1278 up and sometimes I get close to 16 mbps down.

Nice one! Impressicely efficient! You only did your OP a week ago.

I'm glad it's fast. Have you time to explain briefly the process, please?

For instance, how long after ordering it did they come and do it?

...........getting excited!

Must...order...fibre

Impressive torrenting! Are these your figures and where are you based?

You said your mate got 66Mbps. You mean, he signed up for 30/3 fibre and got 66 for a time?

Re: price

They advertise 900 for ADSL and 1200 for Fibre. The ADSL account we're paying has been active for well over a year and the price is still 900. I can't see anything to say that it's an intro price.

That 66 mbps was from a friend's computer September last year in Phuket town, not long after the fibre service started. He signed up for the 30/3 but was getting over double for a time. He says he is still getting 4 mbps now.

It's the fibre service cost that was introductory. When my mate signed up he got the first year at half price - about 1200 baht. I think it is supposed to go up to ~2500 baht after a year.

I just checked their web site...
