Hey everyone,

In 2 weeks I will have to do my first 3 month extension on my ED visa, I currently have the usual 90 day visa.

The thing that differs slightly for me is the fact I'm doing an internship (sales) instead of a language course at a Thai company, will I need to prove anything similar to the 'Thai quiz' for language students?

I am working at the company full time and they could provide with a written statement or something similar if that is necessary.

Secondly, my company is working on getting me a work-permit / business visa (one year, multiple entry) but this takes quite some time and paperwork. Could I also switch to a tourist visa or 30 day visa exempt status while I am getting the Business visa, or is it smarter to extend my 3 month ED and switch to business visa after?

Many thanks for the help!

You are working full-time yet on an ED visa?? blink.png

Worded that badly, what I meant was I'm currently on an ED Visa to do my graduation internship for my Uni in my home country.

The company I am at want to employ me full-time however after my internship which finished around 10th of July.

They are working on getting me a work permit and business visa but they won't be in time before my first 3 months here end.

Unless you are attending a school or university registered here in Thailand you will not be able to get an extension of stay. There is no provision in the police order for extensions of stay that allows for an extension based upon an internship.

You best choice would be to go out for a tourist visa.

You could also go out for and return to get a visa exempt entry. By land you would only get 15 days unless you are from a G7 country.

Thanks for your reply,

That is surprising.. because my internship is actually 5 months. In the current provisions the maximum length for an internship in Thailand is only 3 months?

If I am going for the tourist visa can I apply for it in Bangkok, if so long would it take?

I presume the 60 day single entry would be my best option, making sure I have the work permit / business visa by then?

The police order does not take internships into consideration at all. Most people on internships get a multiple entry non-ed visa that gives 90 day entries for a year.

You will have to go out of the country to a nearby embassy or consulate to get a tourist visa. You can get a 30 day extension of the 60 days if you needed more time.
